PHPLD free version greater than version 2

Discussion in 'Directories' started by relixx, Aug 18, 2010.

I'm looking to start up a directory or two, however I noticed that phpLD doesn't offer a free version anymore (well, they do, version 2, which is really old).

I'm wanting to do a bit of dev work and experiment a bit before I decide to cough up the cash, so I was wondering - what was the last free edition they offered on the site (I'm sure it was higher than v2), and can anyone supply the .zip/tar.gz file?

Obviously, I'm not looking for warez or scripts where the verification etc has been stripped away. I just don't want to waste $30 on a script I may choose not to use.

The script is only $30 last time I checked, why bother with an old version for the sake of a few $.

Don't be one of those free script and .info domain directory owners, If you put something in you just might get something back.

Crappy directories are only good for harvesting email addresses, nothing more.

    Thanks Brian

If you're not even willing to spend the money on a script to see if its what you want, then thats already a bad sign, trying the free one and asking questions will still give you enough of an idea if its right for you.

You already sound doubtful, like you just are not prepared to take a small chance.

    I wouldn't bother if i was you.

Pardon? What is wrong with trying before buying? You do know that that is why professional software has things like 30-day trials, evaluation licenses and the like. I mean, I happen to not have lots of $30 to throw away on programs that may not suit my purposes or projects. Plus, the closer the free version is to the latest version, the less the feature gap etc is, thus I can get a better feel for the software. This is rather important when I'm comparing various directory scripts to see which I should go with.

Try before buy is the kind of thing that the crack groups say, i guess you should be discussing what you want with the owner of the script really, see what he has to say.

The script is well worth $30. To get anything back you must be able/willing to spend.

    Thanks Brian

The Free version - like many things - is not worth the "cost"

Current version 4 is not really comparable to the free version anyway - V4 saves far more than the $30 cost in time spent setting up and the ongoing management. Plus if it is new to you the support via their Forum is invaluable.

Believe me - like most things on the net - you get what you pay for.

Personally I think there's nothing wrong with trying something out before you buy it ($30 is still $30). In this case though, the free version of PHPLD is much different than the paid version - so it wont give you much help.

Alternatives? There are other scripts on the market. Or - try out the Demo.
