Try going on safemode and then click on an administrator account. Normally it doesn't have a password and it should allow you to change the password of your account without knowing the current password. ;)

    Hi KainKatarn

I think you should give Hiren's BootCD a go. It has a program called Active@Password Changer on it which will enable you to change the administrator pw. You will need to d/l it to disk or usb and then change the boot order in BIOS to the relevant drive.

    Hiren's:

    http://www.hiren.info/pages/bootcd

If this doesn't work, its because you need the "professional" version which will cost you. The demo wont have the full features that you need.

Let me know if it doesn't work and I will help you get the full version ;)

To get in to safe mode, press F8 a few times during boot up, before the vista screen comes up, and you will be presented with a list.

Select Safe Mode. Once in safe mode you will probably only see your user, and the guest user. If you do not see an administrator user (which vista disables this account by default), then this will not work for you. If you do, click it, login, and then go to users and change the password from the one you don't know.

Or Hirens Boot CD is a good choice, but if you dont know how to get in to safe mode, i doubt your going to figure out how to burn an iso, boot to cd, select the correct resetting tools, etc.

If I were you, I would call local computer stores, and see what they charge. I own a local store, and only charge $35. Another suggestion is to look in craigslist under computers for your area, (if your in the US) and there are TONS of people looking for work that could reset it quickly for you, for probably less.

There is plenty of third party windows password recovery software available online. All of them are designed to create a windows password recovery disk. You could choose one of them to recover windows password.

There is no need to reinstall the system. Many of us are usually confronted with this problem-forget our Windows password and have no idea what to do.Now,let’s get acquainted with this issue.

You can create a password reset disk which enables you to reset your password without much hassle. The problem with this option is that you have to create the reset disk before the password is lost. You can find a description of how to create a password reset disk With Windows Password Key .And burn the program to a blank CD/DVD or USB Flash Drive and then insert to your locked PC.

Now you can Reset Windows Vista Administrator password with Three Simple Methods:

Method 1: Reset Windows Vista administrator password on safe mode

    * Preparation Time: about 10 minutes
    * Pros: Simple and do not need third party tools
    * Cons: Need an available admin account on your Vista PC

Step 1: Press F8 when your Windows Vista PC is booting. You will come to the Advanced Boot Options. Then choose Safe Mode with Command Prompt and press Enter.

Step 2: Enter safe mode with an available admin account.

Step 3: Type net user and press Enter. The command prompt will show you all accounts on the Windows Vista PC.

Step 4: Type net user Paul 123 (Paul is the locked admin account's name and 123 is the new password) and press Enter. Now you have successfully created a new password on the locked admin account.

Step 5: Type shutdown -r -t 00 and press Enter.
Your Windows Vista PC should be rebooted automatically and then you can log on Windows Vista with the new password.

Method 2: Recover Windows Vista administrator password with freeware

    * Preparation Time: More than 30 minutes
    * Pros: Free and do not need to change the forgotten password
    * Cons: The freeware should not work if the password is too long

Ophcrack is used to create a Windows password recovery disk. You need to boot your computer from the disk to recover your password. You can follow these easy steps:

    Step 1: Download Ophcrack

Step 2: Burn a Windows password recovery disk with the freeware

Step 3: Recover the forgotten Windows Vista admin password with the disk

You can log on Windows Vista with the old password now.

Method 3: Reset Windows Vista administrator password with shareware

    * Preparation Time: less than 5 minutes
    * Pros: Fast and 100% reset the forgotten password
    * Cons: Not free but only $19.95

Unlike Ophcrack, Windows Password Recovery Tool 3.0 is designed to reset the forgotten password. No matter how long and how complicated the password is, this software can 100% reset the forgotten password in few minutes. All you need to do is just three steps:

Step 1: Download Windows Password Recovery Tool 3.0

Step 2: Burn a Windows password reset disk with the shareware

Step 3: Reset the forgotten Windows Vista admin password with the disk.

The safe mode can really help the cause only if you remember that old password not in the case that you have forgotten the password, it only is used to reset the password not to recover the password, what you can do in such a case id use Stellar phoenix its password recovery software for widows will help you recover the lost password
