I am agree with you SERP is really important. A lot of people seem to have lost SERPs because their site was caught up in the sandbox. Once the site is released from the sandbox, their SERPs are better.
It is important to have good title as it defines your webpage.....Although description can be something from text on the page as google searches for relevant content when displaying SERPs results.....Description tag is not as much important as Content on the page......

i actually think the thread got started for that purpose, look at his sig links, nice attempt at making linkwheel or getting some links from a relevant page. SMH why do ppl do this all the time
