Someone is Using My Articles on Their Site - Advice?

Discussion in 'General Business' started by m1ndless, Aug 14, 2010.

I was just notified that someone is using an exact copy of my article on their site, but it's strange since they kept my affiliate links?

My concern is duplicate content? And I don't want him to make money off my writing without getting some of it.

find out who the web host is and contact them. Normally web hosts take this stuff really seriously and will take action for you.

Did you submit your article to any article directories? Some of them allow people to pull articles for their own use as long as they give credit.

If it was my content I would give him/her time to respond. If there wont be any respond contact the host and send and put the webmaster in the CC. If that wont help you can go further by DMCA etc. it is only the question if it is worth it wasting so much time on it.

But if they respond I would suggest for asking credits on the article so you get a backlink + your affiliate link is posted there, some would call that a win-win situation :)

Copy and past other people content is quite common now but if he or she did give you free backlink to your site then you should consider ignoring it.

if you don't want him to use your content, then you may send him email or contact his host.

i woudln't worry about dupe content, especially if he has your aff links in it....also, if your site has more authority you will outrank him for the same article anyway

And to remove duplicate content, you can also send a removal request at Google Webmaster Tools for all unnecessary URLs.

you should send email to the owners of the article directories may be they can give you a better solution and i think it is also against the rules of copyrights and this person is doing a cyber crime so try to file a report against him

What I have done in the past is to contact the web site owner (the "contact us") link and let them know that my article is being used on their site but no link is provided. Some people have responded positively and correct the mistake. Most sadly, ignore the email.

He got back to me, he claimed the article was unique, then apologized and added a backlink.

Glad to hear it worked out for you. All too often you get stubborn/stupid persons that force you to take it up to the next level costing you additional time/effort to protect (or at least be credited with) what is rightfully yours.
