Directories worth paying for?

I know there are a lot of sites listing quality directories, and I have a ton bookmarked. But I'm curious to get some opinions here. Which directories do you think are of high enough quality to justify paying for review?

First on my list is BOTW and Merchantcircle. The first is a payed directory while Merchant is a free review site.

Basically i would go for what category you intend to be listed in, this is more important than looking at a directory overall, because a general directory is not focused you need to be looking at it in its particular strength only for your type of listing that you will submit.

Dont worry if it has a weak pet food category if the site that you pay to submit will be intended for their strong loans category (just examples of course) if you're paying then its worth looking at it this way.

Why don't you list the sites that these 'best directory sites' sites list. It's always interesting to see what one sites lists and what others opinions or experiences are. And how relevant or current these opinions are.

None. Maybe Yahoo was worth to pay for it but I don't think it is anymore.

I'd start with directories in your niche, then move on to some of the better known general directories. Here's a list of top value web directories that you can use to get started. The search on the site can help you narrow the list by niche, pr, price, value rating, etc.

Im suprised that people attempt to look at a directory as a whole when evaluating its strength.

The basic thing you have to recognize before paying for any link is check the dofollow attribute on your link. If it is nofollow then paying for such link is totally worthless. go with high pr directory from pr 5 to 6 or above. it cost you lot, but i you get best platform then its surly worth you,.

Good point. What you should spend your time verifying that the page where you'll be listed will benefit your site.

Some directories are designed in such a way that the listing detail pages are the main focus, which have yet to be created. A few examples are below.

    Pogo
Directory Critic - I know its a competitor but we are all friendly :)
    USA Chat Now

With this in mind, it would be impossible to judge such directories solely on what is visible. Instead, some directories need to be judged on how they are structured and how the editors do their jobs.

Regardless, my personal favorite premium directories can be found in this paid directory list. It's not a user submitted list and very subjective (personal experiences with these directories).

And that's exactly what I was asking for thanks :)

Just curious to see which directories other people have had success with. I have a number of web sites bookmarked already listing "best" directories (including yours).

It depends what you offered back for your payment and of course - price.
Paying for review and being in page #100 not worth it at all. It will not drive you visitors and you will not get any PR as well.
If you pay and you get featured placement, i.e. first page in category/sub-category, it can be an option.

In my opinion the following points are very important before you decided to submit a site :
    - Visitors statistic (if available)
    - When was it created
    - Google PR
    - Listing quality
    - Submission cost

    BOTW is a good example.
