praetserge . . . Here's a quote from Wikipedia: "On an ecommerce site, where the sole aim may be to sell products online, the bounce rate is a primary concern and useful measurement".

Here's another one: "For example, Google could measure how many people start a new search for the same topic after visiting your web page. That would be an indicator that your website is not suitable for the chosen keyword".

I don't think too many people go to an e-commerce site to get a question answered. Alfredito's site appears to be a wholesale manufacturer of jewelry. Bounce rate, as you say, may be less relevant on a non-ecommerce website, but there is little evidence that Google doesn't use it for ranking anymore, as you say. People like to toss out opinions about the Google algorithm, but the truth is, Google isn't talking.

if i would say, that my main site has for past 2 years since i open was .87 - 1.5%, 2 months ago, and still up to day, its 35-45% , somehow, it's jumped to that high and never came back. why it was so low, and why it's suddenly went so high , ? ?? who knows.

    any comments, thanks

    1.
    - some people go on eCommerce sites to check and compare specific products thus high bounce rate means that people're not buying from you but it doesn't mean people didn't find what they were after. Agreed?
You correctly said that not everybody has an eCommerce site and for many sites high bounce rate is actually good (people found what they were looking for).

    2.
    - I have never said anythig about it and search engines DO use it and it does make sense to use it. I totally agree with your point.

I currently have three different sites, all of which are fairly new. After six months, my bounce rate on all three is anywhere from 41 to 68 percent. I know these are not very good numbers, but I am not as concerned about that as I am about the lack of conversions. This is something I am currently working on, but I do not want to pay anyone to do this for me. I would be open to advice and suggestions from anyone.

EmpowerMedia. If you have the time and interest to learn about improving your conversion, you definitely do not have to pay someone. Join our book club on Goodreads.com. It's free. We read fantastic books on conversion, one chapter per week. The book we are reading right now is by Steve Krug, "Don't Make Me Think". The link to the book club at Goodreads is on our blog: http://www.diamondwebsiteconversion.com/blog/. There is also a ton of free conversion information on the blog.

You can always shoot me a specific question. I am happy to answer.

    All the best . . . Carl

well, seems that no one knows, why you have high bounce rate, do not waste your money on some books, etc. there is many factors there, buying traffic, incorrect representation for keywords you targeting etc.

For one of my websites I have a bounce rate of 50% plus but it displays address's and contact details, if someone is looking for an address for a destination and land it on the first search why on earth would they want to check more on the site.

But its all relative to what your website is about.
