I would never use 90% of the features on something like Dreamweaver, so I just use Notepad++. For me, it's great - syntax highlighting and speed is all I need. :)

After you get the hang of coding and start memorizing syntax, I find that Notepad++ is the best application to use.

    Here we go again.

I love Dreamweaver (version 8 code editor).
BUT I also love PSPad. It's free, has coloured code (which I LOVE), and unlike so many other code editors, it has built in FTP. You can also run it from a USB stick. Only bad thing is that it's Windows only.

Using WYSIWYG editors can become a handicap because you still have to deal with the fact that you need to test in every browser, Not only do you have a memory hog we call Dreamweaver open, but you also need like 3 other different browser clients and IEtester. Honestly, you're better off with Notepad ++ or JEdit. I like JEdit because the superbrevs plugin saves me a ton of time.

Well am sorry to say this but i don't think there's any alternative to compare dreamweaver, Try Adobe Photo Sho and you will be out of this world after your creativity.

Dreamweaver Is The Best So Far for me, i don't know about others, if you know please let us know.

    Thanks.

Notepad++ rocks. Coupled with Frontpage 2003 (can be downloaded for free if you know where to look..) -- quite tough, when it comes to development (not design though..).

Since I do not use any WYSIWYG editors I recommend notepad++ or UltraEdit.
