High quality Backlinks is the most important factors. Besides, domain age is another factor.

 

Quite impossible to say, there could be hundreds of factors that decide it. Backlink quality (dofollow, high PR, anchor text, page relevancy) and age (both your websites and the backlinks you got) would be the most important IMO. Not forgetting the content itself of course, but sometimes I think SEO people overestimate its importance.

In my opinion the importance of backlinks is too high.
For insteance, Facebook has a PR10, if I'm correct, and yet when one searches the internet for information, which is by default its major purpose, seldom one gets results showing Facebook pages and if one gets on of those pages, the information usually won't be as complete as in some blogs, websites or Wikipedia.
There are blogs with really high pageranks only because of backlinks and not because of their quality.
I do hope that Google continues to give importance to content as said by their responsibles.

I'm with you on that. In a perfect world, the search engine algorithms would be able to evaluate the web pages' content in detail and accurately.

There is, however, already a modest correlation between content and backlinks. The better our content, the more likely it is that other websites will voluntarily link to ours. So good content will generate more backlinks ("votes"), which in turn will favorably affect PR.
