Ever not been fully compensated for an website development job?

If so what have you done to ensure you get paid?

    Scenario:

    Me:
I can build x amount of websites for the sum of $xx. Or if you order in bulk of x or more the price will be $xx per site.

    Reneger:
Ok I'll take the bulk offer.

I finish with x amount. Reneger then says that they wish to halt all development.
I respond saying that is fine but since they did not reach the x bulk amount that they must then cover what is left at the below bulk price.

Reneger then replies with "I don’t want to carry on this discussion any further".

The sum that they owe isn't large enough for me to really purse an lawsuit, nonetheless an serious impact should be made on them.

Ever have this happen to you? What would you guys suggest?

You can't do anything but accept what they pay you - and leave appropriate I-trader if applicable.

    Thanks MJ,

I'm just chalking it up as yet another learning experience. Am I able to add negative feedback if the job was though PM only and not by an posts?

That was a bilateral agreement since they already paid you, but the only way to enforce that is though the courts. This is why an arbitration clause is a good move, that makes things cheaper and faster.

In future, ask for an amount up front to cover 'costs'. Bill the extra for each completed website. that way, they don't reach the average discounted price till you've released the final site.
