What features do you like to see in a directory?

I am looking for some innovative directory features other than these:

    • Rate
    • Comment
    • Search
    • Include Pic of front pages or logo of the sites
    • Deep links
    • Social links addresses of the site (Twitter, Facebook,...)
    • Product.

Any other features you can suggest?

In the past i added lots of mods, i thought submitters wanted all that fluff, i removed a lot of the mods, my personal opinion only: they simply want the link, they wont come to a directory for features, at most they might hang around a directory for longer if theres a blog there and it has good quality posts.

Even the deeplinks are less popular now and most of my submitters clearly haven't submitted for PR.

Just some food for thought. ;)

Me personally, i just want the link too.

pipes is right. Submitters are most of the time not interested in additional features.
What they (also me) want is a dofollow backlink to their site with the title (anchor text) they want and in the category they want.

    Why not?
What would be wrong with adding link to other resources they may have.

Our Directory is listing links, if our users have them and if you offer that feature,
I'm sure they will gladly submit free of charge:
    Link to Forum
    Link to Blog
    Link to Twitter
    Link to FaceBook
    Link to MySpace
    Link to BlogSpot
    Link to Digg
    Link to Delicious
    Link to Stumbleupon
    Link to Technorati

Just check this link and you'll see what I mean

    I don't...
maybe because I don't know what da fuck dofollow means.

    I don't think so.
Who cares what Category they want?
Site MUST be submitted to appropriate Category where it belongs.

If you want to offer additional features in your dir, I don't think there's nothing wrong with it. However, no features will be added to my dirs, not even detail pages...

After all details page will add another link to user's site and that is good thing for SEO.

What if some users who would pay for inclusion otherwise see it as a handicap?

The only way I would add detail pages if I add the mod that enables a different description on the detail page than on the link page. I may do that in the future. Intriguing point.

A better detail page is what many submitters seek in paid directories nowadays. Specially if they can add details like map location, extra description etc.

Not having details pages is a big mistake IMHO. One of my most visited pages is a details page that actually outranks the site displayed for certain keywords. I doubt she's a fan of being outranked by my site but I have sent her over 10,000 visitors for both her keywords and ones totally unrelated to her site.

I currently do not have different content on the details pages but I hope to be changing that in the near future.

Actually you don't need to have different content because if your Details page
is Search Engines Friendly, Google will list that page and use it as landing page.

The real trick is to make Detail page look like it's User's own page, a part of his site.

    ;)

I have installed several mods in my directory that would be beneficial to visitors. Maybe the submitters themselves won't be bothered by them, but I think casual visitors will certainly find them useful.
