black hat is like steroids, you may get away with it / blag it / get some temporary glory but long term you simply cannot beat the system

Can you please explain what makes rules set by Google ethical and not following them unethical?

Perhaps a better way to explain would just to be say that they do it in a manner inconsistent with Google guidelines.

In fact, 'rules' are demands made on you by third parties in order to make THEIR lives easier. If you want to bend over and take it from them, you feel free my friend. Just don't make blanket claims that 'there is no alternative'. Because there is, as those 'black hatters' making 7 figs a month would tell you, if you asked them.
