Islam has their believers. What they believe is up to them. A gang of thugs and murderers I personally would not call them. I think you will find that some fundamentalist Islamics may murder people but I don't think for one minute that the Islamic doctrine teaches to do this.

Basically, it is the same for Christianity. Just because some men who say they are Christians and go about sodomising young children does not mean that true Christians go about doing this too.

Unfortunately, tarring with same brush gives true Christianity a bad name. For what is a true Christian? I would say one that follows the teachings of Christ. Which begs the question, what are the teachings of Christ?

BTW, I will not vote on this poll because for one, it is a loaded question and two, I do not vote at all, as a true Chrsitian.

Jesus does not say that at all, but if you have read some verses of the Koran, you will see that Killing goes hand in hand with their Beliefs!

Uh, a few off the top of my head:

Al-Jabr, or algebra, invented in the early 9th century and refined by several islamic scholars afterwards.

The popular use of coffee.

There is much more, but these readily come to mind, as I sip my coffee, view images made with a camera, and prepare for the GRE (again). While we in the west were deep in the mire of hairshirts, flagellation, and hellbent for ignorance, islamic scholars were developing many things we take for granted today.
