Hello all I have recently taken on an SEO campaign for a huge ecommerce site with 600+ indexed pages. Currently the homepage only ranks well but I have been building links to the inside pages because these are more relevant for the keywords being used. For some reason the site is not ranking properly for these keywords - the SERPS still only show the homepage and not these deep links. Does anybody know when I can expect the deep links to start ranking? Thanks!
Depends on the power of the links, it's normal that inner pages don't rank too well automatically, just keep building deep links. Make sure important pages aren't too deep in the navigation structure, a link from the homepage itself to specific subpages can help, too.
the slightly worrying thing is that NONE of the searches produce results for the deep links, they only show the homepage. and since all links are deep, as far as the client is concerned, no work has been carried out because no rankings have changed. :S
due to last Google Mayday update, internal pages will require lot of backlinks to rank. on a site that ranks well for the front page, inner pages for long tail keywords used to rank well by itself with minor tweaks and link building. however, you now need have pretty much the same amount of focus for inner pages keywords if you want them to rank. keep building links and they will rank over time
this is a great information, thanks mate, can you please share guys how many percent of links can be distributed to a blog or website, for example 50% to homepage and then the rest of 50% links must go to other pages is this the right thing? sorry guys my english and grammar is terrible.
thanks for shedding some light on this. after analysing the top 10 competitors i realised none of them were ranking their inner pages so we've shifted focus to the homepage
