Is it me or is there a glut of high quality sites for sale?
Nothing personal to all the sites currently listed, but Ive been looking at ALL the forums, and cant find strong traffic, established sites period..virtually regardless of price..

    maybe its just me.

ps- This post is also about an interest to still buy high traffic sites (over 200 uniques per day, over 6 month period, and non pharm, adult proxy, gaming, myspace etc) You know the routine...
    Thanks

We also montior every forum and do quite a few buys per week.

I think the point is that it is VERY easy to build a site. And VERY hard to market one.

And well marketed, well built sites sell for larger multiples. So they are then sold in different arenas.

In the 15 months, we have sold we have sold 5 sites/online companies for $50K plus.

Not too many sites being sold on here for that type of money.

Only because they're not being listed. I'll pick up a $50K site in a heartbeat (at 18X earnings) if a quality one became available. And I have even started threads to that effect in the past. So, as per the OP, they just aren't many people selling. Which is good news because I have now upped my stake and am offering 24x.

If you didn't think of selling before... you should now! :)

Its called market saturation. Not to mention, I think people are reluctant to put high traffic established sites for sale with all the scammers and snakes these days... if ya know what I mean ;)

If they have to sell they have to sell. There are ways to protect yourself including getting an NDA (free sample) or doing other checks to screen potential buyers and using escrow for the transaction.

I don't believe it's a matter of people not listing their sites only because they're worried about scammers.

I agree with Foggy... if people have the sites and wanted to sell there are plenty of ways to do a quality/safe transaction on here.

I just don't think there are a ton of high quality sites to be had.

I think there are a significant number of high quality sites out there but if it's bringing in a boatload of money, why sell the cow and no longer have milk to drink?

A lot of times sites are being sold for a reason, a negative reason. The owner has concerns about them in some respect.

Sometimes the main reason a site is being sold is its just not high quality. Therefore, your going to have to sift through a whole lot of dirt to find the few diamonds.

As someone else pointed out, some of the truely good sites won't be sold. Why sell it if things are going well? Sure, there are times when someone needs cash or needs to move on and so they sell a high quality site, but its far more likely they'll hold on to proven money makers.

We tend to only buy broken sites. Most of the time people sell sites because they can only take it so far. They have a good idea or kernel of something good but run out of juice.

That is what we tend to buy.

True, I am browsing these sites to buy something but all I can see is sites that you can put up in 1 week of work. And most of them are not marketed correctly.

Why to buy them then, when I can make the same thing myslef?

    Same here.
I'm interested in buying decent traffic, decent sale sites.

Not the usual proxy, arcade, adsense crap

Just rock solid sites selling rock solid products or services.
Like an oscommerce shop or something
There are a few good ones on sitepoint sometimes.
    But then again it's *sometimes*

I agree, most of these sites for sale are by people looking to make a quick $100 which isn't really much. They are being sold by people who do this for a little extra money rather than a serious business. Perhaps the site owner can make another forum for better quality, non turn-key sites?

Then there are a lot of people who want this and that and don't want to spend a dime. Quality sites can be expensive, so you get what you pay for.

    well,here is my comment
I agree with most of you... I have been looking as well for a decent site ($5000.00 to $10,000) usd, and... NONE TO BE HAD!! I finally decided to have one built, but, my concern is how the heck to get traffic to it??and how to make it profitable over the long haul

a new site will have no traffic and I am entering a competitive arena that will be hard to get sales,I am deternmined to make my new site a go!!

it will be launched Oct,1, 2006.It is a directory geared toward hyip"s BUT.... this is no cheap script I am having it custom made I will offer a chat room, forum, rate box, and give members alot of features found on the competitors sites
Being a new site offers little traffic

(I did buy a domain name that is a pr 3 and is related to hyip)

it actually has the name hyip in the url and the url is 2 yrs old

I hope to get advice and help on how to make it a GO!! I didn"t want to "build a site" because it will take a while to get going.....however, I didnt want to get scammed for thousands either and finding that diamind in the rough seemed IMPOSSIBLE...I decided to "look" for that diamond in the rough for 90 days..after that....move on and build a site....so........ thats what I did.....thanks for hearing me out!!

There is tons of competition in that market, if you don't know how to bring traffic to the site, I would recommend saving the time and effort of not doing it. Try something more niche. HYIP is cut throat when it comes to sites, too many big established forums etc. Perhaps you can use that $10K and buy a site.
