Hello there i wanted to ask, why are some website sold so cheap?

    Like this one:

    flippa.com/auctions/99318/ClickBankReady-200-minutes-VIDEO-PACKAGE-Ebook-in-Hot-IM-Niche-97sale-No-work

the descrition is so well written...

I know that the sites are new, and u have to setup backlinks etc but most of the product are through affiliates....

so why sell them so cheap when they have so much potential?!

    Sincerely

(Sorry i am a newbie and just interested :)

Because people do not want to sit on them. While this does not apply to 'all' it is fitting for many.

There are a lot of people who develop sites, and sell them off or flip them. If you wait for the true market value, then you may be sitting on the site for months. If you drop your price a bit, you can push more volume.

It is about selling, or closing the deal, and inventory management.

Let me give you an example:
I can make a site which can earn money $100 a month. If I keep this site I will earn $100 monthly But I can sell it in $600 and make another one which can earn $100 a month :)
    Just like a game ;)

and what amirk said is very true and a great idea, unfortunately there are those of us who either dont have the time, or that dont have the knowledge to get the traffic to the sites, or are willing to sit and learn exactly how to get the affiliates thing down.

anyways, if you do learn all of it, kudos to you. cuz you can make alot of money that way.

unfortunately thats what usually happens. its like premium wordpress themes. you can make it once, sell it a thousand times and make a ton of money. then you make a similar one, and do it all over again. So yes most of them are just mass produced sites. Sorry to make it a downer. But if you know how to get the traffic, and the members, then go for it. Good luck to you.

its business nowadays to produce new sites and sell em. Be careful what you buy though, some might not be as profitable as you thought it would be.

site maintenance is probably why, most people don't have the time to keep the site updated so they just sell it for what they can and then move on.

Some people just don't have the time to manage such sites. I bought a site off of a guy about a year ago which has just now paid for itself and all revenue from now on is just gravy. It seemed like he should've just kept it for himself, but honestly I think the guy is so rich he just didn't care and he didn't feel like investing time to keep the #3 ranking.

Great example :) Did you mean $1,000 a month? But yeah it's all about evolving and timing in this industry. I've seen so many potential sites that went down hill because the user did not manage or promote it enough. It takes time and effort to maintain a good site.

Websites are sold surprising cheap compared with other businesses. For example, depending on the industry you would pay anything between 3yrs and 10yrs times the profit to buy a business plus the market value of any assets and as indicated above only 6months times the profit on websites.
The difference is that calculating the profit of any business should include the cost (wages) of the person running the business (or in this case maintaining the website). When you add this in, the chances are the website is not making a profit at all i.e. if you outsourced the maintenance, link building etc what would it cost more than the revenue generated?
Of course the bigger picture is if you let it age for 6 months and lavish you love and attention on it, then are you going to have a site generating $500 a month and running on auto pilot, if yes then it's a great deal.
The person who produced the site will have done 5 or 10 in the day and so he has done well as well. Win/Win!

new sites like that in $100 are not worth it, try searching flippa for high traffic sites (alexa under 200k) and pr3+. you will only find few of those, in a matter of fact, most of their websites are cheap dirt and not work it at all, i have a filter url that will go directly into flippa's best selling sites, everything else is just a waste.
