Let's read carefully the issue before posting man ... Are you sure he's making $100 per hour??? Keep cool man. OK? I like your avatar though.

I don't have credit card either and I am not facing any difficulties in signing up with many web hosting companies. I do have debit card though. Most of the time I use paypal to pay for these hosting and I registered my debit card with paypal and never have any problems so far. If you find hostgator costly then check byethost.com out. They even have free hosting with all the features that you normally get with paid hosting. Try them for free for a month or so and then decide if they are good enough for you to pay for their service. I am not saying they are without problems, but just something you might want to check out.

Just on a general note. If you go big into hosting i.e. you are making your money and living with this and put many and big web sites. You should definitely go with more then one provider on this. This makes you less dependent on one and spreads the risk of having problems. Well, and of course you then can really compare first hand who is the best.

    It helps indeed :)

But what i want to add is that even with the biggest shared hosting company -HostGator- you can face some problems. For some people it never happened. Let's cross fingers it will never happen. And for other people it happens. Even with the biggest shared hosting company :) The good point is that there is a big support team always available.

    The big points would be:
    1) site up time
    2) up time for your panel.

No. 1 is for obvious reasons. And no. 2 helps you with planning your work.

    3) ...

I recently experienced another problem. Impossible to get FTP access for 1 site -among about a hundred-. Just possible to update through Cpanel. Support has been nice - but no successful help...

I removed the domain name from the panel and changed the DNS @ registrar and I waited for 1/2 days checking the process was OK (DNS propagation and so on). Then I put again the relevant DNS entries and I added the domain name again to the panel.

Now I get FTP access correctly and I did not lose any email in the webmail.

Fortunately this is not an important site...

As I said sometimes there are problems even with the biggest companies.

Why would you not want to use the "name on card" field? Do you mean you don't want to pay by credit card?

You only get what you pay for. If you sign up with a host that offers something like $0.98 for unlimited space and bandwidth, expect poor quality support and a bad overall experience. I recommend checking out the reviews and signing up with companies that offer a money back guarantee or even a free trial so that you can try them out.

Be advised that hosting providers service levels and quality do also change over time. There pricing strategy can tell you something. I'd rather pay $1 more a month, if there are no problems with the service provision. Low pricing can get a provider more people to sign up, but does that (low wages) give him the people to run his service?!

We are with IXWebhosting - Unfortunately there are problems at a regular basis. Right now we are having a database error which intercepts with any page using a database error. I would like to know, if there is any company that is reliable?!
