Suggestions on link building please

I have a soccer (football) blog and I am interested to know how to build links to it.
I post news regularly on it and I am confused what should be my anchor text.

Can some bloggers share their experience here. Do you choose some specific page to build links to?

You can use your main keyword as anchor text. I use my main page to build links to (but also to my other pages).

Get a forum signature with your link in, if you are active on forums you will get links from your posts.

I suggest you to engage more in soccer niche
    - blogs
    - forums
to comment and do forum post to get the relevant backlinks.

Other than that, you can propose those high ranking soccer or sports blogs to do a guest post.
Usually, high PR blogs will have higher chance of getting most of their new blog post PR within next PR update which will help you if your links is dofollow.

Have you done any keyword research? You could start with Google's free keyword tool. Your anchor text should be centered around phrases that you wish to rank for. Such as 'buy soccer cleats'.

you could also post on directories and social bookmarks. just make sure they have do follow capabilities so there'll be backlinks for your blog. but even if there isn't i still think it's good to subscribe to those

My suggestion is.... build links (as many as you can) to all your postings in the blog. Make sure the links that you build and point to these postings are "anchor text" (relevant keywords in your posting). Then, in your postings create a link (just one) as "anchor text" (your main keyword) that's pointing to your main page on the blog. This will ensure that all PR acumulated by your posts on your blog will be carried on to your main page.

Yes, it worth. As long as the blog (or website) has relevant content to the topic you're posting about... then it worth. This is my opinion.

Most of the obvious points have ben covered, however one thing that hasn't been mentioned is that you stick with what ever method you choose. Posting blog comments for a week will not help. You need to be doing this religeously over and over to gain maximum exposure.
