When this case occur, I use Ubuntu cd insert to cd drive and access to my computer without install it.
And I copy all data in hard disk out to external disk, and re install new OS.

I recommend you to have Ubuntu in your hand for every time, It can help you when necessary.
Especially when you have virus in you computer and don't want to start you window computer.

Go to download at ubuntu.com website.

The best solution - is to use one of the well known restoration services, if you lost ENTIRE hard drive. This is not cheap, but there is more possibility, that your data will be recovered.
After that don't forget to use some hard drive status monitoring software, like ActiveSMART by Ariolic and good backup service, like Carbonite or Mozy..

I too agree to the point, regular backup of the data is really is a key, but I would like to add even if someone has not backed up the data and the data is lost then in that case also the data can be recovered, but still the backed up data leads the discussion nothing is better than that

Ya, surely no one will provide you the data recovery for free, the companies that claim they provide free data recovery they only do that till a certain , hard drive capacity like data recovery till 4 GB of data free and there after you need to purchase the software, and the free software may also make the corrupt to a certain extent that it is not further recoverable so don't try these free software, do a market survey call several companies ask them about the kind of services they offer then only go for the data recovery software

Data Recovery is not done with softwares - it's done with brain.

You're supposed to back up so this won't happen, that's the only solution!

Yes, applying brains in a constructive manner can really help but then also you will require a data recovery software to recover the data, I would love to know if any other way is there to get the data without getting the data recovery software involved

    Hi tompatrick,

From your post, I assume that you work in only sales/SEO department for Stellar. Else you wouldn't have asked such question. :)

Have your ever heard about ATA commands, manual FW access and custom module editing/regeneration and eventually, servo structure, PRML patterns, track structure and framing between families and cross-brands/cross-platform i.e. Agere / ARM / ST? Also, I wonder if you do have any custom made tools to hold and eventually align the set of heads and platters, especially the TB sized WD ones and the ones with the spacers?

If yes, then I will be more than happy to tell you that how a data recovery is performed with brain. If not, then rest be assured that I don't have any such plans of revealing my trade secrets!

ali007, the thread starter would be thankful to you, he was in search of free data recovery software. With our discussion he might have had got the easiest way to recover the data.

Hats off to your knowledge, But what I think is that getting in to those technicalities is not layman's cup of tea for them software provides a perfect interface.

I know no one reveals there trade secret and I also don't have any plan to do that as well:)
