Is this guy serious? He will pay you $300/month if you make him $50/day?

This could be true when a site needs a lot of investment maybe the person doesnt have it but a 20% cut is too less

You can't determine that without knowing what the running costs, money and time, are so the % is in the eye of the beholder.

Why do people completely discard something like this,
not saying this specific one is a good proposal, but it could be,
if you discard this off hand then by that reasoning anyone who sells a profitable website is an idiot.
Hello, maybe someone who has a profitable website simply wants to go and do other things.
Getting paid by a % of the profit is most likely to get you more money long term than a one off sales price,
it depends on the individual situation.

Then there are those of us whose business it is to create sites, not run them.

Ok, looking at myself, i can make you a perfectly good tipster/handicapper site with paid subscriptions.
Bit of marketing, not too much, and you'll make a nice sum.

Do i want to make the site... sure, nice project to do.
Do i want to spend my days running it day to day... no way, much too tedious and boring.
Do you think you can make a success of a tipster/handicapper website, i'll gladly make it for you for a % of the profit.
    Perfectly valid scenario.

No, because he's asking the person to do all the work so it kinda defeats the point.
Plus, you would rather hire someone for $100 a month rather than losing $1200 per month to this guy.

So, yeah it's pretty clear that no matter what way you spin it, it's a very stupid proposal.

    Read it again,
nowhere does it say he expects you to run the site on-goingly,
as obviously that would be an idiotic proposal,
he's just asking you to create it.

The only stupid part of this specific proposal is that if you can create a site that can make 50$ a day i'm pretty sure you can find a partner or buyer that will give you more than 20%.

    Think about it,
according to your reasoning any freelance developer who makes websites for clients for a one-off payment is an idiot...

lol this may sound like a "scam", but really it is capitalism at its finest. I mean, lets be honest, who on freelancer expects to make LESS money than they are spending on their project? No one! He is just being too honest.
