What is Search Engine Optimization and Search Engine Types?

This is the hot practice in demand and availed by every firm, individual and company, if they want their global presence and want to increase the popularity of their product and services. Proper use of SEO with a planned and specific strategy can make someone a Brand.

Search Engine Optimization or we can say in short as “SEO” is an online marketing strategy used to increase a Web site's visibility to the millions of people who find information and services on the Internet. Optimization of your site helps to increase the rank and visibility of your site in the search engine result pages, which can dramatically increase traffic to your Web site and establish a Web presence for your practice.

Search Engine Types:-

1. Crawler-based Engines

It is referred to as spiders or web crawlers, use special software to automatically and regularly visit Web sites to create and supplement their giant repositories of Web pages.

These softwares are called as “Bot”, “Crawler”, “Robot”, “Spider”. These programs runs on the search engines and move on the pages to cache and index them that already exist in their epositories.

2. Directories:

This one is also known as the human-edited catalogs. It means that the results hold by the search engines are affected by human inventions, usually by people rating individual results further up or further down the rankings.

3. Hybrid Engines that is also know as META engines and those using other engines' results. Actually meta search engines query several other Web search engine databases in parallel and then combine the results in one list.

Some meta search engines are Vivisimo (use Google database), Clusty (use Google database), Ixquick (use Yahoo database), Dogpile ( use Google, Yahoo database), Mamma (use Miva, Ask database) etc.

4. Pay-per-performance and paid inclusion engines

It is cleared by the name of it means you have to pay when a single performance happened. Many advertisers have success advertising on pay-per-performance search engines like as Overture[dot]com etc. These are the great place to start experiment for your campaign.

Some pay-per-performance search engines are AOL, Lycos, Infospace, AltaVista and Momma.com.

Actually Pay per click is an Internet advertising model used on websites, in which advertisers pay their host only when their ad is clicked. With search engines, advertisers typically bid on keyword phrases relevant to their target market. Content sites commonly charge a fixed price per click rather than use a bidding system.

It's not any type of search engine but it is a type of marketing performed on the search engines and that lies in the category of "Search Engine Marketing" (SEM). like as Google's Adwords, Yahoo search marketing, Microsoft Ad center etc.

Actually It's not clear, what you want to explain. As we all know, previously Yahoo was not a search engine, It was a human edited directory and the result provided by the yahoo were completed affected by the human interruption. But later now Yahoo is also a search engines ,used software to index and cache for the pages named as -"Spider". So now there is no role of human to rank any site.

When a query is placed, the search string is searched by the softwares defined already in the database of yahoo and accordingly results are displayed before you.

Ya that may be good in the sense only that meta search engines fetches the data of other search engines and doesn't maintain of it's own. And for only this basic that results are combined that are coming from other search engines, that may not be purely reliable, and what's your own parameter to analyze someone.
