I have heard a lot that now a days directory submission, link exchange etc. etc., are not at all important for SEO. Any body have idea in which area one has to be more focused on to keep pace with current trend?

I don't know where you heard that, but I wouldn't stop the tried and true methods of SEO just yet.

 

Article submission,blog updation,forums and blog commenting are best activities.

 

What you mean by old. All you have to do is to follow the methods that users will find helpful. There are no such fixed methods in which you should do SEO. The SEs like what the users like. You can concentrate more in building relevant IBLS, together with that write good useful content. With these traits you can achieve good rank in the major SEs.

 

I think now social media promotion is on trend. People is looking for traffic now.

Question answer

RSS feed submission

I've noticed that people are moving down the social media path but i find that its very time consuming to get followers with the majority just SPAM accounts (twitter) and then once you have them you have to updated on a regular basis to keep them (None SPAM accounts), does anyone find that social media like twitter and facebook actually convert into sales, because i havent so far.

I would second YouTube. Video is the new marketing technique.

web 2.0 and link wheels are new techniques. But everyone using the old methods as well.

 

For me its link building with anchor text links and creating a trust factor in the eyes of search engine. If you do this two things you can damn beat anyone.

 

The most bang for the buck is still targeted anchor text from backlinks.
