Both are average. If I had to choose, I would still go with directory submissions. Social bookmarks have hardly any SEO value.

 

Definitely start with adding your site in trusted directories alongside with bookmarking if your site has at least PR2 because I think some sites have a certain PR requirement, or at least it's easier to get accepted. Submit to Best of the Web, Aviva Directory, Dmoz, JoeAnt.com, DirJournal.com, Business.com at least. I believe there is a thread in DP that has a list of good directories. I can't find the list that I used, but you can do a search.

 

Social Bookmarking is much better than directories submission. Social bookmarking not only provides back links, but also give good traffic.

According to me if you are looking for long term success then you should follow both, but if you will compare both then going for bookmarking will always be the best option, because if you are not going for paid listing in directories then the page where your site will be listed, that page will never be indexed by Google. So bookmarking is far better than the directory submission.

bookmarking gives u more traffic instantly but it is not stable
directory works on long run but it is stable and good for our website
so i suggest no priority, keep it onn for a good and long time results

Directories are for the most part a waste of time. If you find well ranked, well indexed directories, then these can help, I agree that bookmarking is superior.

I would say both are equal Importance... in Directories, try to get back link as much as u can, it will be good if you get from High PR.

 

Directories are dead!!! Only few of them can give you normal links that will be valuable for your site. So my answer is social bookmarks rules!

 

I prefer bookmarking, it can also give you a lot of traffic, there are many directories online and half of them are sandbox websites completely useless.

 

I agree with FullSeo on this, directories are dead, other than the paid ones. Since about 40% of all directories are niche directories, so require a reciprocal link and some require a minimum PR. Yahoo will list your site on theirs but will set you back a minimum of $90 per year but hey, it's a PR9 link. DMOZ is probably the only directory that is worth anything for free but can take months to be reviewed and accepted or denied so I'd wait before you at least have some PR before submitting to DMOZ. personally, I don't waste my time with directories.

Yes, definitely do both. For directories, make sure they are reputable ones with higher PR. I like DMOZ, Yahoo Directory and Business.com the best. They can be expensive though.

 

For me social bookmarking is still the best.
