does page rank affect ranking in google, if so, to what extent?

does a high pr automatically mean you will rank higher..?

what are some other benefits to a high pr website..?

    thank you in advance

PR (Page Rank (scale 1 to 10) ) doesn't affect Rankings (SERPS: Search Engine Result Pages): their are in different league.

I think Pr does help to have better serps. But it is not only criteria.
But better PR is always good for sure.

Also what is the extent can be said by google only. If i know what extent it was i would have been a BILLIonaire

Ok this is going to turn into another one of those threads where some people say one thing, other people say the complete opposite and there is complete confusion.

The best thing for you to do is take a look at what Google has to say on the matter:

Pages that we believe are important pages receive a higher PageRank and are more likely to appear at the top of the search results.

Bottom line: Pagerank does matter. Yes, it's one of many factors that affect your rankings but it's still important.

Google PR some of the factors are:
    1) Traffic for the Page,
    2) Quality Backlinks,
    3) Quality content,
    4) Coding Error Free Page.

SO many people here are wrong :(

Toolbar Pagerank doesn't have an effect on rankings. Google's pagerank (which we can't see) is one of the MOST IMPORTANT factors in ranking individual pages. Pagerank is what gives pages trust and authority.

Read some of the PageRank Facts and Myths and if you're interested in website authority you can vote up my question to Matt Cutts ;) so we can get some answers.

In fact, they are two different indicators. One is to evaluate the link popularity and one is to evaluate the importance of a website. They have some things in common and i could say that they are interrelated.

They both are "Yes" and "No".

Yes - Many high pagerank websites are authority website and tends to have a good to great in ranking for most relative keywords.

No - Some high pagerank websites are only a glitch and cannot being measured as authority. You would see many high pagerank websites got beaten by lower pagerank websites in many keywords. This is a proved of how uncorrelated between pagerank and ranking. If you have observed Google lately you would see some "fine tuned" pattern by Google handling on most pagerank issues. Many high value website are being hidden with the mask of low pagerank while many websites are opposite.
