I just launched a new site last week www.iSell.com and would appreciate any suggestions on improving the UI, navigation, SEO, calls to action or any other feedback I can get. I’ve looked at this too long over the last few months and a fresh set of eyes would help. It’s written in php/mysql and I originally intended it to be 100% css but was forced to use a few tables here and there to due to the lack of time (to overcome my css ignorance). At this point I’m less concerned about monetization of the site (via ypn/adsense) than I am about growing registered users and ads. I’ve done a few contextual ad experiments in the last few days and I can get my ctr in the 12-14%/ range but as I said my primary goal for the foreseeable future is to grow my user base. I’m still working on a short list of items – about us, affiliate program, datafeeds in and out, faq, forum, etc. which should begin to show up over the next few weeks. Note: There is one issue that I know of and I‘m working on in the ad detail pages – I have a bug in the code that resolves the geographic location of the ad and it’s causing some slight formatting problems for the information boxes and the meta tag contents. Thanks, -classifieds
Never mind. I pulled your IP out of the log file: 59.167.4.210 . Try it now. What's your IP address? http://www.whatismyipaddress.com/ I block a lot of IP ranges - satellite ISPs, africa, parts of eastern europe - places where people would not legitimately place an ad or buy something locally in the US or Canada.
I am from Australia.. not a wise move to block australian buyers, one of the most trust worthy and a big internet user base down here with a lot of $$$ to spend online I can understand the africa block but
Please don't take offense. The 59.0 range also serves mailasia (sp?), the Philipines and some satellite ISPs which is why I think the entire range was blocked.
Iam viewing it from a US proxy The navigation is clean, You can use The words "Request Photo" Instead of "No Photo" , Call to action is better for the words "Request Photo" You can have a drop down for Filter by Asking price (Like 100- 200, 200 -1000, >1000 etc) You can have a subdomain for countries Like: us.isell.com/ canada.isell.com/ and can extend the navigation by cities., like: us.isell.com/newyork-classifieds us.isell.com/albama-classifieds etc., Instead of the Home word, You Can use "Classifieds Home" You can have a seperate Page for Member list which will list all the members in alphabetical order
Thank you for taking the time to look at it (even though it was a PITA) I've struggled over the "no photo" graphic and have even considered leaving it blank but it either screws up the layout OR looks strange when ads with photos and those without are mixed together. "Request Photo" is a good idea Filtering/sorting based on price is something that should have been in the original release. I don't know why I didn't think of it. There's not much I can do on the subdomains/subdirectory structure without a complete rewrite of the code base. Initially I was going to make it cityname.domain.com/cat1/cat2 but there were technical/budgetary limitations that were too great to overcome. I agree on the "Classified Home" and have not considered having a member directory but it's something I should review. Thank you again for taking the time and trouble to look at it. Let me know if I can return the favor. -jay
Actually you can use modrewrite to achieve the subdomain thing., We did it for our site http://www.indialist.com
lol. . .If you saw my .htaccess and the code you would understand what I'm talking about I've got a couple more of these that I'm working on and will probably take the time and $$ to use a subdomain/subdirectory metaphor.
Cool name for the site. I think the domain name it self is worth a lot. And a good site to match the domain name Thanks
