I just checked my Google Analytics to see where people were landing on my site. • Home Page — 8,261 unique visitors entered the website there last month. • Other Pages — 69,616 (89%) of the visitors entered on pages other than the home page. The obvious message? Optimize all your pages, not just the home page.
This is different for all websites, I've checked one of my websites and the top landing page was homepage with 80%.
Agreed, it is very important to optimise all pages. Though as @ohcysp said, it is different for all sites.
Also remember that you're comparing the numbers from one page to the numbers of Many pages. Home page is just one lonely page, and the "Other Pages" category could comprise a great many. About how many pages comprise your 70K visits to other pages? I still agree with you 100% you've gotta optimize them all!
Interesting....just pulled up my stats...the last 30 days... 8.24% of visitors to homepage.... on about half the traffic
Sure, we should focus on every inner pages which are most popular by our visitors. The pages should have quality contents that help to keep engaging the visitors. The most important step is to make a page more search visibility by maintaining keyword proximity. Then optimize your pages using appropriate meta elements, pages with unique keyword rich title and create LSI Concept based contents.
Wordtracker Academy agrees with Jim4767. Their research indicates that a long (1,000 words+) page optimized for a primary and secondary keyword can get search traffic from 100 and maybe even 1000s of other closely related keywords. They further suggested that you should have 10-15 of these long content pages on your site for maximum effect. Not every page is important but some are sure more important than others.
The other 70K (89% of) visitors went directly to about 200 inner pages of the website. My point remains that 89% of my total landings were on pages other than my home page. If I had not optimized those pages, I would probably be losing most of those 70K monthly visitors who are not landing on my home page.
On page SEO is real important yup yup. Cause when you type in "Click Here" to google search, the #1 result is Soooooooooooooooooooooo relevant
How about taking the time to provide an accurate title...? You dont think its worth it ,I gather... that extra 10 seconds is a killer.
The Adobe example, when properly understood, is meaningless as far as whether mere mortal websites like ours should be optimized. If you get a few million or so "click here" links to your site, you might edge Adobe out for #1. Otherwise, I would recommend good optimization — both on-page and off-page.
