If you only had $100, which paid directories would you use?

Just wanted to see what people would recommend. If you could only afford $100 for submissions to paid directories or sites, where would you put your money?

I know about DMOZ and so on. I'm not looking for tips. Just thought this would be an interesting question to test out creativity with a limited budget. Somethime too many of us have to do too often.

For short time results you can choose some sistems as adwords . For long time results buy as many link as you can with a high PR.

That's an excellent question. One that I'd be interested in seeing the suggestions.

I would take my wife and my kid, and i would go on a picnic or to a fun park with them, and have a great time all day.

And after that i would spend 3 hours and submit (permanently) to about 20 free great directories.

    :)

I would spend $30ish and have someone here submit my site to 100+ directories.

I would take the rest and spend it elsewhere. :D

The couple of places mentioned so far are ok, but if I was on a very limited budget trying to start out, I would hold off on those places until later on.

Yes one can pay 50$ and get 100 directories submission and most of them will list your website. This way you save half of your budget.Rest if you really want to spend all of it you can buy one way good theme based links with PR.

I wouldn't use any of the directories. Not free or paid. I'd save the $100.00 to pay a bill.

I found out after dealing with directories that they do not produce the traffic everyone thinks they will get. I guess if you have a popular site or product you could get some hits in directories but for the most part directories don't get to much traffic and the members don't get any traffic. Nobody surfs the directories. Even Just Memo is bunk! Lots of members but no surfer traffic.

I read an ariticle that stated Google flags the directories and doesn't let their page bots in them. Can't even get bot traffic!

I'm building my own advertising. I tried all the standard advertising places and venues and they are all bunk. My Google analytics puts the traffic I do get at 90% referrer, 5% seach engine and 5% direct. Says alot about all the banners and links I put out. Pay per click is false traffic and is not worth the money.

Use Twitter. Twitter is the best method of getting traffic to your site but you have to build up your followers and Twitter two or three times a day. Alot of Twits get picked up by the seach engine bots and put out on the web. Your Twitter account gets put out on the web. All good. Everytime you put about 10 twits up you'll get a quick traffic rush of about 30 to 50 visitors. I got 109 in about 10 minutes one time. My site is an advertising forum so I don't expect to win any popularity contests but it does do about 3000 visits a month. It's only about 2 years old and I've changed the name and the style around a few times.

Good luck, getting that 'ol popularity and traffic is a rough road.

Quality backlinkers? I tried some of those and it was hopeless. If you don't have traffic to return to them then you won't get any traffic back. :( I have friends I exchange links and banners with. Sometimes I get rushes from their sites but most of the time it's nothing.

Anyone know where I can spend my $100 on some popularity. Not the kind promised by the thousands of backlinkers, directories, PPC's and surf sites. Some true genuine popularity that comes naturally. The kind of popularity that comes from sitting around, eating fritos and drinking beer and piles of people come and sit with you because you are naturally likable. Ya, some of that popularity would be good for me! :)

I would definitely order social bookmarking. For 100$ you will get 12 pages of your site bookmarked so these pages would get PR1 or PR2 and will improve SERP

I still live by price, product and site content. Finding free advertising places that get modest traffic is the best way to go to see if your site has any pull (popularity) before shelling out money only to find out your site isn't going to gain any traction. Takes along time to do it this way but the money you save could be alot.

I have free advertising forums that not to many people want to advertise in. My forums get traffic and are constructed so people don't have to come back and constantly post to get their websites seen. They haven't picked up any traction yet. I have some members but free advertising with 500 to 1000 guests a day? Somebody tells me they have a place for me to put banners and links, I'm on it! I Twitter and that's a great traffic getter but I also put banners and links anywhere I can get them in, in places that I don't have to keep coming back to post like here on Digital point. Great traffic getter here but you have to keep posting. Twitter is easier. Just copy/paste from your favorites list into the twit box and click twit. That's really fast. I'm posting on Digital point to get info, make friends since the other forum I was social on sucked. Bad moderators.

The point is, ya give free advertising away and nobody jumps on it and that tells you how hard you are going to have to work to get a web site up and running. Without the natural popularity (can't buy popularity) or a click group (click groups attack and run off new members they don't like) you're going to have to spend lots more than $100.00 or work your behind off to get a decent traffic flow with uniques and transactions. Millions of people have multiple web sites and its hard now to get a site going without that natural popularity.

business.com if your site is a fit. You will get the most benefit from niche directories that are narrowly targeted at your niche. Google has disparaged general directory submissions but encourages niche directories. Most are not free, however. Do a search for "niche directory" + your niche

I'll check out that niche directory thing. Directories as a whole to me are useless and have never produced.

P.S. Linkbuilding is the best way to get a web site going. Linkbuilding takes forever and a day but in a year or two your traffic will be up and regular. Google has articles stating this is the best way to build traffic to a web site. I've read several other articles stating the same thing. Finding web sites that allow links and banners is the only way to go for long term growth. Short term "I want it now" costs tons of money and if you don't have the money to shell out you ain't goin anywhere.

Me and a few family members have stores on Ioffer and we are planning to start our own web site off in the future. We started some advertising forums, top lists, blogs to get the link building going. We also find other web sites that allow banners and links (we don't spam) and use that resource also to link build. We also make friends with (use the forums like Digital point to make friends) web site owners and other sellers to exchange links with. We don't use the social forums to spam but if the forum lets members have signature links we will add the signature link. There are some advertising forums like the ones we have and even if they don't appear to be getting to much traffic, "Use them". Never spam forums or web sites that don't allow advertising! Lots of web sites on the net that do allow links and banners, ya just have to find them.

Gotta work at it if you don't have popularity. Popularity has never graced me :) .

I was thinking about doing that. I'm just to busy. I burn alot of time getting links and banners out. Search engine bots pick up my links and banners on websites and put them out on the internet. Gets me some traffic. More than all the directories I've submitted to. Actually, when I was doing the directories I got "NOTHING"! 500 site views a day is better than "NOTHING". I had over 1000 guest page views Tuesday from linkbuilding.

Yea, I was thinking about writing articles and am interested in doing that. Guess I'll have to find some time.
