    I've seen that for me, I gain my presence by linking through social networking. Over time, the links start to gain weight through the main search engines and I can start to rely on direct traffic & through places like Google & Yahoo.

    But yeah to make a long story short, try to aim on getting traffic through search engines.

    everyone here is mentioning social media for traffic, and i would recommend the same thing

    but only if you are a retail or B2C business

    In my experience, B2B industries have a hard time promoting their products and services on twitter and facebook with any kind of good results.

    Basically i use only SEO and SMO to generate traffic, both of them work well
    SMO normally provide fast traffic but only for short term but SEO able to provide long term traffic but it need to spend much more time
