Best shopping cart to use for this project.

Hi, I've been searching the web for the best shopping cart lately but I now know that it all depends on the project requirements. Right now I'm planning to create a website exactly as https://w3-markup.com/order where customers can select different options for the website they want me to build, and a client area where they can track the project's progress.

I'm planning to use the shopping cart's product attributes/options to achieve this so for example a tshirt website uses this:

    Tshirt 1
    Size: S,M,L
    Color: blue,red,green

    Mine would be something like:

    Website 1
    Pages: 1,2,3,4
    Days: 1,2,3,4

So I was thinking which is the best shopping cart to achieve this or if I'm better off coding my own by using a PHP Framework.

Note: I've only used Magento in the past and I don't think it fits the requirements.

Any help will be much appreciated!

    Thanks

I think doing some customization in Magento will help you to do that or go for custom development

Thanks for the reply. My problem in using Magento is the way configurable products are created. Since there would be a lot of attributes the number of combinations will be huge... which I have to enter manually.

You could have a fiddle with zencart seeing as it's free.

Will definitely check zen cart out. It's actually my first choice because I read that it has cleaner code and is more updated than OsCommerce.

    Thanks!

Magento has a better architecture in my opinion, so it's probably more suitable if you need to do complicated pricing and variations. It's very modular so if the functionality isn't there you should be able to implement it cleanly.

I like to look of magento, but the last time I tried it you had to do all kinds of faffing around just to install it and I just gave up before I got started really. I found zencart, and the paid for cubecart, much easier to dive straight into.

Is there a way to override Magento's core functionality like its product variations? Right now it's something like when you create different variations for a product you also have to create a single product for each variation.
In my example above in regards to a Tshirt product you then have to create Tshirt-small-red, Tshirt-small-blue, Tshirt-small-green, Tshirt-medium-red and so fort. In my last Magento project I had to manually enter more than 2 thousand products but the actual number of products was only a hundred... took months!

That's my only problem with Magento actually. Even the complexity is fine by me because it only provides a lot of room for modifications.

I just want to find something that is up to date and has clean code for a developer so it's easy to modify.

    Thanks

If I were you I would design and code it from scratch. Although I am not aware of the detailed specifications I suppose this project can be completed in maximum 3 days and a custom site would be much faster and nicer than a hacked (modified) robust ecommerce software. All you need is a handy javascript framework like mootools for the slider and two maximum three mysql tables to store user data and the orders.

    Good luck

I would like to suggest AJ Shopping Cart software for this project, which provides you more user friendly facilities also easily customizable. Try demo first for more details.

I have been flirting with Americommerce.com. They have the best features for showing attributes like your's.

Hi thanks for all your suggestions! Seems that zen cart will be my first shopping cart to try doing the project. Since it's easy to extend (?).

And this I'll definitely do if zen cart fails.

    Thanks again!

I think Magento is best for your customization. Because it’s a commercial open source business model and there are present different types tools and successfully build online shop.
