    Help!

Our website http://www.ianandwendy.com has really bad PR - 2, despite lots of traffic (although much less after May update) and lots of valid backlinks. I suspect part of the problem is that we own 2 domains Site 1 and Site 2, both with PR4 (but NO backlinks at ALL, no nothing!) , that until a month ago had just frame'd the content of http://www.ianandwendy.com. I realized google might be penalizing our main site at the expense of these sites we don't care about, so I changed both these 2 domains to be simple 301 redirects to our main site, hoping it would fix the problem.

Maybe I need to be more patient, but so far it's done nothing to help. Basically, I'm trying to "move" the PR from those 2 sites over to our main site. Instead of the 301, should I instead just create a simple page, with one link only to our main page, and see if that works?

Google only update the Pagerank when Apple or Mirco$oft bring out something new, and use the Page Rank update to kill the forum talk about "SAID news or product".

    Yep, be patient.
301 is the best way to go about it as it tells search engines exactly what you mean (Permanently moved).
Also, "toolbar" PR can be glitchy at times, its just a snapshot and should only be used as a rough guide... It does not show the sites "real" PR.

If the two sites that were PR 4 had no back links whatsoever, then chances are that it was a glitch and/or may have been reflecting another sites PR (by being 301 redirected to a PR 4 site during a toolbar PR update).
Either way, don't worry about it. "Toolbar" PR is only a guide and doesn't affect much more than egos and link sellers.

    Cheers

How can I check my sites www.samui-villas.biz and www.kohsamuivillas.biz PR in Google, as I would like to know my real PR, not the PR some toolbars and webservices give me. They vary from 0 - 5...;-) I don't think that's normal.

The real PR is what Google use in their ranking algorithm and is constantly updated. AFAIK, its not publicly disclosed.

The way you keep dropping links to your site in your posts is not wise.

Google does not provide up-to-the minute PR numbers. In fact, the Toolbar PR number is out-of-date by the time it is published.

The current PR for any given website is internal data that Google will not expose. And for obvious reasons: if you could find the current number, it would be very easy to test and tune ways to build PR super fast.

I have read that Google is okay with link exchange as long as it is within reason and not with the help of link farms.

Anymore it's hard to get fair link exchange on any scale. Everyone is trying to avoid bleeding PageRank.

It also doesn't help that a determined person can build PR using Twitter, YouTube and a few well-aimed forum posts.

Overall, I suspect it has diminished the value of linking.

I have almost always noticed that before every major PR update, Google does a minor update. Not sure what their logic is.
