Google Business Ranking

Does anyone know how to receive a higher Google business ranking?

Is it keyword related? I read on google help section that it uses the same type of analytic as google does but that does not seem to make sense.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

I am taking about a business ranking. When I search something with a zip code of anything on google maps it seems as if the ranking is totally random.

I am not referring to regular google page ranking for websites but rather for business account

 

So do you refer to the map listing?

 

He's talking about Google Places which used to called Google Local Business listings.

It's LOCAL search ranking for business physically listed in a city.
If you search for Dentist in Your City (or plumber or landscaper) you'll see 7 listings at the top of the page
ABOVE the organic rankings. These are Google Place or Google Local Business listings.

No it has nothing to do with that. It's a totally different algo and about 50 different factors go into the rankings.
So asking for general advice without seeing your Place page is kinda like asking "how do you build a house" too big of a question. ;-)

Also not many people here truly understand how to optimize for Google local.

Google Places forum. I'm a level 5 volunteer over there and can try to help if you post your listing and have more specific questions.

for google local you can increase your reviews

 

Get your customers to live reviews - also make sure you fully optimize your listing with images and video.

 

Maximum advertisement is the best way.

 

I would bet it has something to do with your many backlinks you have to your site, your keywords, and the popularity of your site.
