i think they lose the money imagine how much bandwidth they use with the billions of users that go on youtube
Yeah, the main reason they loose their money is their bandwith. They run thousands of servers.Imagine maintance, workers and etc. It's just the question of prestige and more. vimeo.com got an alternative to youtube but they are young, using different design, do you think they loose money with 1.5-3.0 million of traffic daily? youtube with 10x more is loosing. interesting isn't it?
Indeed it is, now that I see it from you point of view, it makes sense why they would be loosing money. I guess in the end every business is risky weather your selling products, service, or just making revenue from advertising..
Youtube is no doubt one of the most abundantly used portal among others of Google. Youtube cant give you money in fact it helps you to make money. One can use ads, banners and much more for the promotion of business. Along with this all featured videos can be added to increase visibility and motivate users to play their role for the betterment of your business. Still we are the one who can make this portal successful by using it effectively.
I think youtube is doing much better now than before. Traffic = Business! I mean it was a smart move for google to get youtube under it service, I've heard now that they are start making pretty decent money with google videos and etc. Let's stick around find out..
They ran ads and all but as been shared here....youtube is not making big money and is actually just being covered by Google... maybe with the upcoming google Tv then they can monetize more from their site
yea thats true i also wonder where they get this info and data and how accurate it is, all the same if google is loosing money on youtube , they will make it up in adwords
Ads are their main source of income. They also do some minor things like branded profiles etc. But with users making their own content, youtube can just sit back and watch the cash roll in from the ads.
An article from July last year. http://blogs.reuters.com/mediafile/2009/07/10/sun-valley-when-will-youtube-make-a-profit/
now bought out by Google they've been struggling to keep the site profitable while adsense sharing with larger youtube accounts. It's part of the reason you'll see more :15 second ads and frontpage full screen ads now, they're always looking for solutions to make the site profitable, not that Google's in serious danger of it being a company liability.
Let's face it though, a major company like Google with Youtube can't really turn to the nice affiliate methods leading to higher CPM rates like we can. They've been struggling with this for years and have had some serious negative feedback with advertising (pay per view on YT, big flop; low rated promoted videos)
