I have basic knowledge of CSS and HTML and I want to learn web designing. Right now, I am just good enough at using free templates. Can anyone give me a good website/book to learn it.?

learn php in w3schools and in php tutorials....u can easily create a site using joomla,it is a open source content management system ..the design part is in default u just need to modify to your requirements and if ur doing it for promotion there also it provides ur clients with different features like he can change the contents and make it more attractive with his own design..it serve for both lamp and wamp technology...and the database should be done by the site owner...

You can try "Build Your Own Website the Right Way with HTML and CSS" by Ian Lloyd, "Building Websites for Dummies" (pretty cheap at Amazon and $25-$35 @ Barnes & Noble) and online tutorials like w3schools. I know it might not be answer you're looking for, but everyone here is right. You should google specific keywords for the areas of web design you need. I emailed myself a ton of links for learning how to build websites. Hope this is helpful & good luck.

The best and the only answer you need. Theoretically.
You can also find a lot of junk using Google.

Head First into Html with Css and Xhtml is an excellent book. I can't provide live links yet, but just google the title there and you'll find it quick. Once you're done with this book, there are also php, java and mysql books as well in the Head First Series. I also suggest w3schools which has been mentioned several times already.

GO through amazons dot com...there are plenty of templates which can be downloaded for free..choose any one of the design.....joomla is the best open source cms technology..where it provides plenty of components and plug-ins....it also provides some default templates, where the design part is done to u,just need to modify the contents and design according to Ur requirements..joomla is developed using php..which is faster than other tech....so i recommend you to follow joomla see how it works ....any thanks are appreciated..
