The reasons why I'm not visiting DigitalPoint so often anymore!

    Hello DigitalPoint,

I've been a huge fan of Digital Point; Checking new threads, replying, starting new threads and all that.
But after a while I stopped even checking digitalpoint, the main reason was...

    DUMB POSTS

Yes, I got sick of all these nonsense stupid posts and repeated questions + lack of original content.

The users are trying as reply to threads as much as possible just for the links in their signatures, No matter how dumb or unrelated their posts are.

    Example #1:
OP: I've submitted a sitemap to google and my site is still not indexed, What should I do?
Reply #1: Try submitting a sitemap to google.
Reply #2: I agree, sitemaps should help.

    ------

    Example #2:
OP: When google's next PR update will be?
Reply #1: Sometime between march and april.
Reply #4: Between march and april.
Reply #6: PR updated this morning on my site.

This and other questions have been asked over a million times, There's even a sticky thread about not starting new threads about them... But I keep seeing them EVERYDAY.

I'm not bitching or anything; I just felt like I wanna talk about it.
And I'm totally talking from a positive perspective to change that not just to complain... You get my point : )

And maybe in here, there will be dumb posts too (maybe including mine :p )

I think that problem can be solved by giving the poster a bad rep, but when i give bad rep, i will get bad rep too :(
So, i'm afraid for giving bad rep.

Sometimes i report the post too,
i told that the poster is just one liners or just giving the idea that already given without any elaboration.

So, what admin and moderators will do?
I hope they can solve this.

Well it's like people have different IQ's and they're scattered everywhere or gathered in one place.

DP suits my purposes so I still come here often without being bothered by pollutants. You have no choice but deal wit them.

I think DP is just like any other forum which has a huge user base, there are posts which are aimed to help and those aimed to just exploit, learn to live with it or sign up for a private forum :)

I agree with the OP but everyone is trying to learn something. We were noobs some years ago and after learning how internet marketing works we can help the beginners. I'm visiting DP everyday and helping beginners with their questions. I always give them a proper answer so that they also get a chance to learn and earn. But sometimes you see new threads (same/alike) and you can't blame the newbies because they are new to the forum. I think one way to solve this matter is that there should be more moderators and deleting repeated thread. I don't see them active in the general chat section.

    Kind regards,
    Yogesh

The problem of all those recurring posts and sometimes more or less dumb answers lies in my honest opinion in people are just too lazy to read few some posts or don't know how to use the search function and for dumb posts like "thanks for sharing" etc just for trying to catch one more backlink since the signature links are follow links. Just read through the threads especially when it comes about how to build backlinks and in every single one you will find the answer "forum posts and forum signatures".
There are even link building "companies" advertising for building backlinks on forum profile pages. They just don't let you know that the forum owners get sick of it too and start deleting those profiles and those "backlinks" if there is no other activity.
Just yesterday I couldn't help it to leave a sarcastic post on a new thread that one and only had the goal of self serving advertising. If the threads and posts would be better moderated, a lot of crap could be filtered out. I'm here at this forum almost daily, sometimes only for a few minutes, sometimes for several hours because I consider myself still being a newbie and have learned a lot stuff here and I'm still hoping to learn something new every single day. But also I need to admit, the more I read here, the more I get confused sometimes by all the contraticting answers posted on a sometimes simple question.
Still, DP is my favorite forum but the mods will have to work a bit harder so it won't turn into a totally trashy forum someday and more and more people will wander off to other forums.

    Cheers

I tend to read more than reply nowadays for some of these reasons - posts just get irrelevant and silly replies. It depends where you go in the forum really, the GC isn't the best place for a quality discussion.

So where do you think the quality discussion will be occurred? In Area 51?
I never visited there, maybe someone who was ever visited there share your experience in there?

I completely agree with the OP.

I am a bit disappointed with DP Forums. I am not an old member, but I had many hopes with DP Forums.

What we need, is some better controlling and management. Like a rule that makes it no more allowable to just say 'thank you for your post' 'good advice' (If they want to thank the OP, then they can thank via the 'add to reputation'. Or they can thank publicly on the condition that they add something of value to the discussion) and make it against the rule to write most short posts (many people post less than 3 words). Or mods could just delete short posts, and only leave posts which add VALUE to the discussion/thread. People will slowly realise, that my post will be deleted if I just write a three word post (just to get a signature link), unless I add VALUE to the thread.

    Look at this post:

    http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=1830158

This guy just added his website link and didn't even quote anything from the article.

Also, when a question has been answered, many people post the EXACT SAME answer in the thread, and the thread goes on for years.

Some forums are better managed, like v7n. They have VERY strict policies. Many get banned quickly there, for adding posts of no value. Just look at v7n, you will find a big difference between v7n and DP.

    Just my 2 cents,
    Nabeel

Well, you can give negative rep to any member and they won't be able to know who gave it to them... Just don't write your username there.. :)

Its the internet. Hoping to find a forum with even 10% quality posts is a pipe dream. And it bothers people that posts are made just to promote signatures? What did you expect on an internet marketing forum? The people on here are marketers, and are going to market. Its just part of the forum, you have to learn to leve with it.
