Hi, I have a question about link exchanging to improve search engine results. For best results is it recommended to link exchange with sites based on your niche. For example I have a polls website and I link exchange with another poll site. Is this recommended or it doesn't matter who you link exchange with as long as they have good PR?
That's right but some LE partners are too smart to remove your link after you added them. Just be cautious check your links on their resource page every now and then. Many are doing it to get only one way links.
When I'm link exchanging with niche partners, does it matter if the anchor link is my website name or is it recommended that it should be a keyword like "Create Polls" ?
ya go ahead.. Generally SE consider all links as backlink not only for relevant theme. but the relevant theme backlink has more value than other links.
If we aren't having much more niche related site for link exchange. There is no harm if you exchange your link into other high PR sites. But we have to check whether they are removing our links are not. Some of webmaster doesn't keep irrelevant sites in their link exchange page.
Generally, you have to submit your site in high PR and niche related site. Since yours is a poll based site, you can get those sites in a very less manner and so you can exchange links with any other niche related site.

Link exchange with same niche is good for traffic. Also you can focus back links from other websites.
Ideally, you will want to exchange links that have similar content to you because this will be most valuable to your readers. However, it is debatable how much relevant websites affect the Google Alogorithm. If you have the chance to exchange link with similar sites versus exchanges with non-similar sites; go with the similar ones.
Here we go again with this pagerank thing!! What matters is quality. Check the content and the links are linking to the site and you will see its quality.
LinkExchange is not recommended and Goolge will not love this kind of link as well. Most webmasters are lured into this kind of easy links but it has good better traffic result as well if your link partner's site has quality good traffic
I would much rather exchange links with a PR4 unrelated website, than with a PR3 related one. There are more important factors to take into account than relevancy.
