A bounce rate shows the percentage of visitors who initially arrive on a site page and then leave "bounce to another site" without visiting another page of your site. A high bounce generally means you site is not doing a good job at interesting people. While opinions will vary on what is a very high percentage, many put it at anything over 50%, and 35% to 40% is cause for concern. Few sites get a bounce rate under 20%. Now if your site if designed for adsense, then it is your intent to get them to click and ad (which means they "bounce" to another site). In this situation, as long as your CTR is good, then you are accomplishing your goal.

If site performing good then its bounce rate should be low, for example if your website bounce rate is 50% and after some days its become 30% it means your site performance is good

mjewel is saying right, u should make your content more attractive to attract the visitors. it will also reduce the bouncing rate of your site.

i assume that you're running a blog. usually sites have links. i suggest you put "Read More" on the blog. if a person is interested they be sure to click it. if not then you just have to make the site more attractive, or exchange link with similar blog.

It always depend on the objective of your site. If you want users to land on your page, complete the contact form with their info then leave, a 100% bounce rate will be ok. Although if they land on your homepage, and leave without checking your services pages then you have a problem.

I suggest you take a look at the "landing pages" section in Google Analytics to check how your key pages are performing.

lower is better, and offcourse better if it stays low and does not go up and down, it is a measure of how much people go to your site and actually stay on your site versus those that buy traffic for a site (witch is ussually fake hits to a site that do not look at your site, but good for ALEXA rank)

Sometimes it takes a lot of effort to create something that's going to interest reader ..
Just make sure to analyze what your targeted audience needs.

does following the "Read More" not count as a bounce because it takes visitor to inside of site? I guess what i am asking is all it takes is one internal click to avoid a bounce?

Its show be as low as possible. The lower the bounce rate, the higher the user read through or stay in your website. It also mean that your website is getting qualified traffic.

It is good to have it as low as 20%.

Bounce back rate should be as lower as possible. The design of your website should be eye catching plus the navigation should be user friendly. The visitors should be able to find the link to other internal pages quickly and the hyper text should be relevant. Also, make sure the content is relevant to the keywords that you are targeting.

I agree with mjewele. Bounce rate of any website should be minimum and it should not be more than 40%.
