I am currently using a premium theme and when I publish my posts,my whole blog posts are displayed in the front page.I dont want to look like that.I want my post' brief summary only to be displayed in the front page.So if I have 5 posts summary being displayed,I want only the summary to be shown, say a small image and a small summary or excerpt of the posts to be displayed in the front page.I want this to be used for mainly movie site.
When someone visits my site, the whole video stuff popps up which makes it really ugly.
    Help needed.

Use excerpt plugin for that. Search with term 'excerpt plugin for wp' and you'll get so many there.

Thanks for the advice, this was what I was looking for 6months and I could not find it,played around with various themes, anyway one more question,I am using the homepage excerpts plugin and it seems working good. Can you suggest me a plugin or something like that which displays a custom small image on the side of each blog post excerpt?
Like if I want to post each weeks TV episodes,I would like to have a small thumbnail picture to be displayed on the side of each post excerpt.
Thank you very much for the suggestion.
Also I would like to know how do you include a large link in different colour than the post colour and link it to my affiliate offer for some other sites and display it just below the Read More link and add it to my site.

Can you please provide a link to that plugin?I didnt find it while searching. Also are you sure its the plugin which shows a small thumbnail on the left hand side of each post excerpt?
For eg:if I'm showing 1 TV episode in 1 post,I want a small thumbnail to be displayed on the side of each post heading and excerpt.

If you simply want to show just the first paragraph or so, try using the insert more tag (alt+shift+t) in your actual post. The icon looks like a sheet of paper with a dotted line through it and is to the left of the spell check button.

This displays on your posts page just the text up to where you insert the tag. Then if someone opens the post it will show all the text.

But for that you need to do it manually for all posts so better option is to go with excerpt plugin IMO.

Yes, true. And of course for a large blog where you have not used the more tag during the creation of the post, the plugin option would be preferred.

I personally prefer to not use a plugin where possible. I find the more plugins you use, the more chance one will react badly with another. And if you get into the habit of using the more tag while posting, it isn't a burden, in fact it is one click... But that's just my personal preference...:)

Can you tell me how to add Read More kind of small pictures like this?
and when clicked on it,it goes to the each individual post?I have seen similar pictures in certain blogs. How can you set it up in the excerpt plug in which you mentioned? Also as zhoom told is it possible to edit some codes in the theme files and do Insert more tag for all the posts simultaneously instead of adding it one by one in each post. Thanks

I am a person who want to avoid using too much plugins at the moment, if you can do it manually.
Have you tried in html mode while writing post typing <!--more--> code? this will summarize your post. Or change the code: <?php the_content();?> with this: <?php the_excerpt();?>

I have some 200 or so posts,so I cant add more or other code one by one.So where should I change the <?php the_content();?> with this: <?php the_excerpt();?>
should I change it in the index.php or somewhere else?
Also can you tell me what do I need to do to include a small picture like this in place of read more so that if someone clicks on it,it goes to the original full content post?
