Web directories and Search Engine

What are the difference between web directories and search engine ? If any one know me than please suggest me at least five major difference between web directories and search engine

A web directory is where you place a page of your site on a "list" manually, a search engine is the "list" with all of your pages added automatically and a search box.

"Search engine" and "Web directory" are two different search services available to the Web community; although they are often mistakenly confused. Search engines have indices that are built up by robots or crawlers; whereas Web directories build up their indices through human editors. Many search engines and directories contain both a computer-generated index and a human generated index, and are referred to as hybrids.

 

A web directory is less common to have a human editor if it was started within the last year and the owner has no previous reputation or understanding of the way they should be operated.

Can you show an example of a directory with this combination please? As ive never seen one.

What about 30,000 directories that have no editors and use bots to load Index with

The difference is approximately the like between a bicycle and jet aircraft
To be serious - directories initially replaced search engines to users. Now every has its own purpose.

 

They are both search engines.
Difference? One typically lists only those sites specifically listed by an end user, and review and accepted by a directory owner/reviewer.
Search Engines typically craw though sites listed, then follow links listed in those sites to other sites and so on, indexing each along the way.
Search engine listings are typically updated at regular intervals by a crawler, where as Directories may be done either manually or in combination with a crawler and manual review and delisting processes.

Thanks for your answer , ya i know difference between webdirectories and search engine but I want to know more points on it. And having good experience is different thing ok dear. So if you have answer of my question then tell me otherwise not replying this way ok. And second thing SEO is big field so I always try to get more and more knowledge that's why I did posted this thread ok dear

 

Heres some help that will stop people laughing at you and many others, please pass it on as it genuinely will help you to get taken more seriously.

Its the use of Dear its all over this forum but its being used incorrectly.

Here in the UK the way to use dear might be like this:

Dear Sir/Madam (used at the beginning of a letter)
Dear (when used by a grandparent to a younger person)
Ok Dear (as in a couple talking to each other)

Using Dear on a webmaster forum comes across as a bit odd when i read it.

I actually did answer your question, and then (although petty forme to do so) i removed my points after i realised what you were up to.

If you want to be formal on a forum you can call me Sir and the females Madam im sure it will be appreciated.

Although i need to brush up on spelling too, i suggest no one will take you seriously enough until you improve yours too, it has to be said.

You wont get clients from the UK or US until you improve on some basics before even worrying about SEO.
