Hi, I have recently relaunched a website www.bestpriceaccessories.ie and it appears very low in the Google search results. I would be interested in feedback on the website and if any SEO expert out there would be interested in a bit of work i.e. getting the website to appear higher up in google rankings. Thanks a million
First thing first. Get in to Google Webmaster Tools : www.google.com/webmasters/tools/ and verify your ownership of domain. It can help you to measure, optimize the result. Download and Read This Google SEO manual: http://www.google.com/webmasters/docs/search-engine-optimization-starter-guide.pdf
You don't mention what keywords you are going for? Which keywords is it low for? From your meta info I can only gather that you're targetting "best price accessories," and "accessories for less." Is that right?
Yes that's broadly the theme of the website, although we are hoping to update the specific meta-tags to try to attract more traffic. It is a commercial site selling electronic accessories.
I have now verified ownership with Google. I also now realise that the website has no page titles or category/product meta-tags defined. Is it worth my while working on this myself or should I be paying an expert to do this for me? I actually couldn't find the website in the search results of say "iphone accessories" which is defined in the meta-tags of the website. Help is welcome!
I think you still haven't started reading the SEO book by Google. Because Meta Tags are not used by Google for Ranking purpose. That means if you have those keywords in meta will not give you ranking in those keywords in Google. You need link development for that. There is a specific Link Development section in this forum. It's always a better idea to learn and trying yourself.
I think the website itself looks good, it's very clean and simple. Your keywords are definitely the first thing you need to think about. What search terms do you want to appear for, and how competitive are they? Until you know this, you really can't start working on the pages themselves or offsite work (backlinks) as you would have no focus for the campaign and undoubtedly waste a lot of time and resource doing so. You need to consider your USP's while doing this, I assume that you are selling on price based on the site name. The next stage would be on page work, i.e. making sure you have the keywords used in the right places on the page <h> and title are probably most important, but also in alt tags pointing to the pages internally and getting the navigation structure right, also using the keywods in the text in the right places. Then you can start building backlinks to the pages, using your keywords in the alt text whenever possible. You see what I mean about keyword research first, you can't really do anything until you have done that. But don't rush it, or again you will find that all your work afterwards could be wasted.
