[question] How many people actually use the reputation feature?

Discussion in 'Support & Feedback' started by joshvelco, May 24, 2010.

Hi everyone, I was just wondering how many people actually use the reputation feature, and if they do, how often. I was wondering this because it seems to me that members have either got enormously high reputation level, or really really low reputation levels, do you think this is because some use the rep feature loads, but lots of people don't use it at all? I must admit that I don't use it as much as I should, it just tends to slip my mind. Though having said that, the number of people that reply to threads and posts with "thanks very much, nice post." and such like, but no one gives the commended poster any credit for it.

It depends on the amount of spare time I have on my hands. If I am relatively free, I do take an effort to appreciate good posts with a rep+.

Further... with the new version, lot many times I have failed to appreciate... simply because this single/double click on reputation button to open the window confuses me.... giving me no window at all, in the end! :(

    Regards,

I’m getting the same problem. I have lost count of the amount of time that the box doesn’t open, clicking it again says I can’t rep the same post. I’m sure this has happened when I was going to leave red as well as green.

    Thanks Brian

I hate that double click thing >.<'

I try to leave rep frequently on good posts, (never left a red rep yet), although frankly I hardly ever get greens any more so I don't know how much point there is to it all.

The people who say "Good post, thanks" aren't going to leave rep simply because they are just upping their post counts :p

I do use the rep feature when I see a decent, well written and helpful post, otherwise I just over look it. I also think this might have been better off posted somewhere else, such as one of the general sections, etc.

This is a question regarding the forum is it not? If you think it should have been posted somewhere else please feel free to say where you would have placed it.

The reputation button in this version of VB isn't too visible to the eye- the older version was more prominent.

I use it sometimes. Not for every good post, but when I see an outstanding post I'll leave rep. I have left negative rep, but only a couple of times over the last few years.

I do pay attention to rep, though - I wouldn't buy something from (or sell something to) a person with negative rep. I don't really pay attention to the number of green bars though - they look more like an indicator of activity than trustworthiness (the people with loads of green bars are usually incredibly active, but one or two greens could still mean good posts, just fewer posts in total_/

    1. Reputation bars as useless as PR or Alexa Ranking.
    2. If you have only 1 bar, giving Reps is as useless as last year snow
    3. In DP you aren't getting Reps for posts but if you're liked or disliked
    4. In here if you want lots of Green bars, then you better learn how to kiss asses

I made some Announcements and Offers threads and got Neg. Reps from some
IDIOTS (you know who you are) just because they hate my guts.

Just do your posting and forget about impressing somebody with your smarts because
people with full set of Green Bars will see you as a threat and will Neg. you just to keep
your Green Level down to show you who is the boss in this forum.

    ;)

I wasn't trying to have a go at you or anything, but your question isn't about the forum it's about who uses the rep feature, so your asking the members of this forum a question and not asking a question about the forum ;)
