Google finally cracked down on blog comments. We ran a test last week. Blog comments are almost irrelevant in SERPS.

Did you mean SERP (Search Engine Result Page) or SEO (Search Engine Optimization) I wish you mean SEO. If you do blog comments in do follow blogs it should increase your Page Rank in time which is updated almost once in a year. You can't get a result in 7 days.
How are you putting your links with or without a Link Text ? Link Text is important to get benefit out of interlinking. Moreover Google analyse the linking between similar contents. So if you are linking from a Cow Page to a Ship Page you will probably not get a good result. They will filter these as spam.

Anchor texts and we waited 30 days for result. Our experiment was finished last week. Search engine results did not improve on Google for the page although they improved for Yahoo. No difference in Bing but because they are slow to update.

If you can comment on those "DoFollow" blogs, I think it is still useful indeed because we can gain many "DoFollow" backlinks.
If you are trying blog commenting campaign, I think it will take some time perhaps a week or more and in blog commenting it is better that you work with quality than quantity.

Can you tell me more about your so called test? I find it really hard to believe that blog comments are useless.
Anyway, blog comments take a long time to take effect and its more about the long term rather than a week or a month..

I have not done any tests but i would agree that Google has put little or no relevance on blog comments. Earlier in the year they commented about spammy blog comments and i think their anwer was just to reduce blog relevance. I would not waste any time with any blog comments relevant or not

You should let us know more about your test. I think commenting on dofollow relevant blog really takes time to effect. It depends if it's crawled by google.

If your competition ranks organically higher than you and has more blog comment links that's your answer. I'm looking for some one to do blog commenting for me.

I do not care whether blog comments have been cracked down from Google or not. :) I would prefer to do it anyway. I have done comments only the post I really wanted to participate and regardless the relevancy. I do blog comments as a hobbies and not a hardcore link building by those comments, some comments I did not even put a link.

I agreed that blog comments on dofollow and relevancy may not help much as it was used to be. However, I still do not care whether they are dofollow or nofollow. Nofollow blog comments still provide a benefits to your website, in seo aspect of course, if you know Google enough.

I think the point of the thread is that as a seo method Blog commenting is nothing but spammy crap. Its not considered useful in the seo anymore. yes it does have its place to contribute and make comments thats about it.

It depends on how well the blogs are ranked PR wise. To say they are all completely useless is naive.
