Directories do add sites themselves, if you have not submitted it but it's in the database simply contact the directory and see if you can get them to do some tweaking to your title and/or description. Always go for quality over quantity.

Also take a look at this thread for qualities of a free directory.

Thank you for this great post. I got to thinking about it and it made perfect sense to me. So since I am submitting my home page I chanced the home page around to include as many of my keywords and i could. I think this is one of the best things I have done for the site in a while. Thank you again for the great advice.

you can have 4-5 titles and descriptions which will have your keywords. Use those titles and descriptions alternate.

While doing directory submissions, remember that there are a few directories that require submitting a title matching your website’s name while various submission directories permit you to incorporate keywords as well.

If you're new to directory submissions then you should focus on the directories in your niche first. Then branch out to the better general directories. After you've done that then you can start pounding through one of the many directory lists out there...hoping your lottery tickets will pay off.

The best thing I've found is to stagger directory listings with manual submissions to the ADD URL link of various SE's. You'd be surprised how fast you get indexed, and see noticeable traffic increases by simply manually submitting your links directly with the SE's, their directories and independent directories.

Submitting to directories will only build back-links and won't give you much traffic. So try to submit your site in twitter and Facebook.

Really? Not necessarily. Keep in mind the traffic you get from the directory is generally indirect traffic the result of which is an indexed page of the directory in an SE that leads someone to your site. Don't discount the true power of a directory. Its not about link building. Its about TRAFFIC. A well indexed directory can generate more traffic than most realize. Its not like a lot of people to do the directory directly to search for sites. They search in an SE, and can very easily stumble into the directory and listed site via the results of their search.

I'd say the traffic value outranks the back link.
