After writing a new blog post to my blog how to promote it?

How to make most out of every new post I create to my blog? What do you guys usually do when you publish new content in your website?

    Here's what I'm currently doing:

After a new post I social bookmark it on Digg, Reddit, Mixx and Stumbleupon.

But what other methods there is to promote a single blog post and build backlinks to it?

You can join Redgage as well. I find Redgage better than other social bookmarking website, since it is a paid site with an active community

Social media marketing - promote your new post with social media sites, such as Twitter, Facebook.
Forum marketing - looking for the forums relevant to your post niche, and then put the URL on these forums.
Article submission - Try EZA and other article directory sites. You can gain bith backlinks and traffic there.

You can always Twitter it. Go into Facebook, find some Groups related to your niche, then post the link to your blog post on their wall.

If your niche is internet marketing related, you can post an article to IM NewsWatch. That's gotten me a few results.

Write a generic article related to your blog niche on Ezine Articles and have a link to your blog in the resource box section.

Enter your blog in Blog Catalog. You need to have at least 5 posts of significant content to do so. Then take their badge and put it on your site.

Enter your blog into MyBlogLog. Yahoo does a pretty good job of having relevant content go to relevant parts of Yahoo. Good do-follow site.

Consider writing a guest post on blogs that already have high-traffic and in your bio put a link to your blog. If you're in the make money online niche, Alan Liew's moneymakerinfo.blogspot.com is really good. I advertise my list on his site and have seen great results. Very responsive blog. Start off with a guest post first to test the traffic.

For more traffic methods that are not SEO-related, visit Kim Roach's blog at BuzzBlogger.com. She's got some pretty good tips.

I'd sugest forum marketing. Put a link to the blog in your signature, and change it to update whenever you have a new post. Then go post useful replys in different sections of the forum. Watch the traffic come in.

When you post it to twitter, make sure you don't just post a link and hope for the best. Encourage clicking and feedback by phrasing the blog post in the form of a question or trick. For example, if your post is titled, "How I Improved my Search Rankings." Try, a twitter post like this, "Is this really the secret to page 1 Google rankings? URL please RT"

Questions pique the curiosity of those that read it and asking your followers to RT your link increases the chances of it getting spread around.

This is a good point too. Forgot to mention it completely. Gotta create that call to action.

Mention the highlight of the post in forums, and tell them where they can read the rest of it.
    Like,
" I just wrote a post about how to truely use the WP Rapbank plugin to target the Ad to your content. You can find it at Wizblog.com"
(That's true, but I have no idea if that's an actual blog. Mine's not ready for prime time yet)

    Edited:
A post related to the topic of the thread, of course. Not just a haphazard post.

If it's a WordPress site, install an autopinging Plugin.
Then ping your sites URL & it's RSS feed.
    Bookmark your site.
    Ping the Bookmarks URL's.
Bookmark your bookmarks & Pings those too.
If any of the bookmarking sites have RSS feeds, guess what? Ping those too....Ping every man & his dog :)

You can submit it on Twitter, Bookmark it on Facebook and lastly, submit to social bookmarking sites. Socialmarker.com has a lot of bookmarking links with high PR you can check it out.

It hardly gets any traffic. I mean why not look at your Analytics and see for yourself if its worth doing or not. What I'd do instead is try to comment on as many blogs as possible and build relationships with bloggers. There are a lot of benefits when you get into these circles of bloggers doing the same thing as you.
