I am wondering how most people come to be affiliates? Do you sign up to be an affiliate of a company that you respect and whos products or services you tend to recommend on a regular basis? They are probably looking for high paying ones. If you know enough to type in "affiliate programs", then you know enough that CJ exists. regnow is a great listing of affiliate programs for software. I'm into affiliate programs myself, but if I started, I'd do screen savers or something that has a universal appeal - and regnow has a just a huge listing of companies.
I look at the pages that I have and think "What would a person who would read this page be interested in buying?" Then I identify vendors that sell those things and search for "vendor name affiliate" on Google. I use Commission Junction now, so I also search on their site for vendors with products which match my pages. I intend to try out other affiliate networks, such as Shareasale, Advertising.com, Primary Ads, OfferWeb, LinkShare, Performics, and 5 Star Affiliate Programs.
I also try to find programs I think will be relevant to my users. No point just throwing anything up there, after all.
High commissions are important incentive to promote but in order to be successful I think its very important to promote products where you have knowledge about the products/services, your market etc
I have been using clickbank.com, so I can only talk about them. This is only one method. There are many other ways to do it. As you may know, you can become an affiliate with the click of a button on clickbank.com. When you go to clickbank.com, go to marketplace (http://www.clickbank.com/marketplace.htm), and search for what you are looking for (your niche), like 'lose weight' etc. You can then order your results according to popularity, highest commissions, keyword match etc. You don't need to sign up with clickbank.com until you actually decide which product to promote. You can view the sales page of each product. So when you like a product you would like to promote, perhaps because of the high commission, or high price, or high popularity or perhaps you personally believe it to be the best, you click on promote. You will need to signup with clickbank.com to get the affiliate link. In this method, Clickbank.com manages everything, from payments to tracking. You dont need to deal with the vendors themselves. There are many other ways too, like finding a product and looking for their affiliate page and applying for it. Hope this helps! Nabeel.
Like most other people I also search for affiliate programs that pay the highest. In the market of advertising the choice depends on profit or payment not on emotion or ethics. So if you want to prefer the emotion then you have no future in the world of affiliate program because it is based on advertising technique. And any people want to be a sharer of affiliate program it is very natural to join an affiliate network like Commission Junction because they are the gathering point of different types of affiliate programs. Well, i found Affiliate Networks trough Facebook and Twitter. I know it seems weird but all you need is one Affiliate Networks Twitter and then you just look through there friends or followers and then you just look at there site and search there site on the main search engines weather they are a "Scam" or "Legit" if you like. Finding affiliate program is not that much of difficult, you must need to know about your niche, to become the super affiliates you need to find out a genuine merchant with outstanding affiliate support as well as timely payouts through all leading payment transfer mode. It does depend on what market your in, a lot of companies are offering affiliate programmes. Amazon, clickbank, commission junction, linkshare, neverblue. have a look at reviews on companies. One company I signed up for never paid on time and when the company i was promoting decided to do their affiliate programme in house my income rocketed. So be warned try and find out as much as you can about the network you sign up for. Ask on forums etc what people have thought of the different networks. Also try not to sign up to to many. I personally follow few simple steps: Initially i select the product from my own niche which i would like to promote. This will give me an edge over the market. Next i research in the market through google and forums like DP for available affiliate networks for my product. I select the one that gives me best deal for the product i selected. Thats how i choose my affiliate network.
