You have no control of the cost of clicks, its all about keywords, so unless you find out what exact keywords the $1.50 clicks are using (and they are not the same as the 0.01 clicks) then your out of luck. Also, your blog is in a niche (if you can even call it that anymore) that is WAY, I mean WAY too saturated! I would personally switch to another niche and leave this website as is untill that one gets traffic. Just a suggestion (and people don't do weight loss or something as saturated, youll waste your time).

Google Adsense is all about good quality content. Always remember "Content is King". If you have good content and also good design I wish you can do better in future. I will suggest you to do some keyword research by Google's Keyword Tool.
    https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordSandbox

Here is a good beginner's Article on how to use Google Keyword Tool Step by Step

Don't forget to read step 7 twice. Average CPC

The google keyword tools is an awesome tool. You can use it to find high paying keywords with low competition.
This is the only way to make money online. Competition on any keyword is tough as the sharks are hungry.

That is too true. It's tough finding decent paying keywords that don't have a lot of competition.

I agree about domains and hosting (although there is very tough competition), but you should also know that affiliate programs in these niches (hosting especially) can pay very well.
One more thing to remember. It is not about the absolute value of CPC. If you can bring twice as much traffic on a site that interests you, you can have 50% lower PPC than for some boring high paying niche...

Assume that, 'forex' CPC is $9 (>$1 per click is usual)
And 'make money' CPC is $2.5 (avg $.25 per click)
If you use make money content in your site then you will get low earnings per click. To get higher payout you have to integrate high paying keywords in your site.

CPC rate doesn't depend only on Keywords. There are other factors like conversion rate, geolocation of your visitors etc so it is called average CPC or estimated CPC. Moreover Adsense has a feature of paying low or average called "Smart Pricing" as High Paying Keywords can not be exploited. Man Google is smarter that's why they are still standing in the business.

Getting more $ per click is what depends on the region your site visitors are coming. If your site gets more visitors from india you might get less $ per click but if you get a click for the same keyword from region like usa you might get more $. This is just because of the amount of conversion rate from that particular region.
For top paying keywords you will be payed from at the time 1-3pm. Try to get more visits in this particular time.

    all the best

the cost per click is set by the advertisers (who use adwords in particular).

The nearest thing we can do is to check what is the highest paying keyword, then we create blog that targets that keyword.

To check the highest paying keyword, I can suggest this. "Google AdWords:Traffic Estimator".
