What would benefit my site more in the Google SERPs: 1) 15 categories, on a single domain 2) 15 sub-domains (one category per sub-domain) (All keyword rich Titles) For each sub-domain I'm thinking, theme each sub-domain based on the Title/Keyword that I would have used for a category. Better yet, would it change anything?
Do you mean something like http://category.mydomain.com vs http://mydomain.com/category/ ... right? I think the standard practice is the second version.
15 categories on a single domain is my choice..... i don't know more about SEO. with my little knowledge i chose first option.......
Ok, just for conversation, lets say we have a site the domain is www.cars.com, & the main keyword is cars. Example#1 Inside that site is 15 categories: 1) red cars 2) white cars 3) blue cars 4) black cars 5) yellow cars 6) etc... Each category has 25 pages. The Index page includes a link to each category page. Example#2 We have the same domain www.cars.com (no categories on the main domain) with 15 sub-domains. The main domain has an Index page, & the 15 URLs all point to the 15 sub-domains just the same as If they were categories. Each sub-domain would be a keyword theme, just the same as a category is a keyword theme. The sub-domains would look something like: 1) http://www.red.cars.com 2) http://www.white.cars.com 3) http://www.blue.cars.com 4) http://www.black.cars.com 5) http://www.yellow.cars.com 6) etc... This is all in the what If stages, I havn't changed anything on my own sites... Thanks,
I would go with 15 categories on a single domain rather than a sub-domain for each category. It's much more easier to optimize.
Yeah I agree, I think SEO wise you'd be better off. Searchengines view sub-domains as a new domain. Building a large authority type site has some advantages, building tightly themed sites on a new domain (not sub-domain) has it's advantages as well. One thing I always notice is wikipedia is often on the first page and they use a catergory/silo type of structure. JMO
