question about using the same theme for multiple sites

    Can it damage your rankings for your sites or make google believe you are creating a network and punish your websites?

    It may be a good idea to base theories on what we do know about what Google and other search engines do. One of the few things we pretty much all agree on is that search engines evaluate and compare source code.

    Knowing that, if one is in doubt about duplication issues, taking a look at the resulting source code of multiple sites might be a good start. Some themes might have a heavy impact on duplicate coding while others may not (assuming the content of each site is unique).

    Have a look at blogpost or wordpress blogs (hosted with these sites), all of them have same/similar themes.. I think what matters most is the content.
