about forum signature advertising...

I'm trying to build backlinks for one of my websites, and I ran into this site www.sigcafe.com
What do you guys think, can forum signature links bring more traffic to my site and help seo wise?

 

Not so much SEO wise but they can definately drive some traffic if the sig is in related forums.

 

Sig traffic can be GREAT! It nearly built my business. Just post in different forums(on topic) and watch the traffic come in!

 

Forums sigs do help in getting good traffic to a site if the forum is relevant to the theme and content of the site but they don't provide much help from the SEO point of view.

 

This is funny. I just launched my forum signature auction site today. Forum signatures can definitely bring traffic to your site. Forum signatures can bring traffic to your site a lot quicker than organic seo.

 

I fully agree. It helps a lot, though not with SEO

 

You can get a lot of backlinks listed in the SEs for forum sigs. I recently saw a big jump for keywords I just added in my sig. It's hard to tell though because I am doing a little bit of other linkbuilding although not too much. I would imagine that Google wouldn't give much credit to it but msn may.

 

Well, for a site i'm owning, I had like 1000 people visiting my site, just from a signature i've been having on another forum, linking to my site. And that's in a span of a month or so. It isn't bad for a forum sig.

You should definately use that technique.

 

It is a lucrative business if you have a messageboard account in which you post frequently and have a ton of posts. For site owners, this can be great.

 

Personally, I'd like to see buying and selling signature links outlawed on a forum like this one - it cheapens the forum, in my opinion.

 

I find it bizare that so many people in this thread are talking about how important sig links are, but don't have one here.

Anyways, for any site that I have promoted I have always found that forum signatures can drive a large amount of traffic.

Also it dosn't cost you anything to add a signature so if your posting on forums anyways it only makes sense to add a signature link, you'll never know how much traffic they can drive until you try it.

 

Sigs are good when you want to sell something.

I always keep changing my sig on DP whenever I sell a domain or somethin

 

I have a link to my sports site in my sig on quite a few sports forums, but unfortunately I haven't found that it produces much traffic

 

I may be wrong about this, but I think that signature links also help search index bots find and index your site way faster than if you don't use them.

 

try different anchor texts to see what works. maybe you can find something that will peak more people's interests and generate more traffic

Google picked up my signature from this site before it even got round to indexing the site itself (and it still hasn't been indexed properly, just the front page).
I expect another good site for sig traffic is slashdot. Just make a witty comment near the top of a thread...

IMO Sigs help in visibility and creating your online presence, I dont expect anything more than that.
