Selling digital content alone or through clickbank?

Discussion in 'General Marketing' started by Lastbutnotleast, May 7, 2010.

Is it more profitable to sell digital content with affiliates through clickbank than selling it alone?

And is there any reason to sell this content alone?

Your experience / point of view please ;)

If you're a newbie, clickbank can be more profitable. You'd have to learn all about affiliate marketing to pursue an independent sales tactic. For most, clickbank is the best bet because its convenient and consistant.

Why not try on your own first? If you can get sales, then you can shelf Clickbank.
You can see how the top vendors in Clickbank do their affiliate page. Try to copy the methods, with all the banners, PLR articles, free ebook etc.

But how can an independant tactic be more profitable than selling with affiliates?

An independent tactic would be more profitable because you are not paying commission or Clickbank's startup cost. However, if you have no sales through your independent tactic then ClickBank would be more profitable for you IF affiliates made sales.

Yes but you can promote your content on your own and then what affiliates bring is a "plus"

    No?

Yes, you are right... But the best bet is to go for an individual tryout rather than jumping in with Clickbank at the start itself...

I'm OK with that. The issue is - let say - you do create relevant content - let's say in the form of an ebook - about a hot topic. You do optimize the sales page. You do some tests. Then is there any relevant reason to continue to promote this alone? The idea is to make as much cash of it of course. And as the topic is hot it has to be done quickly. Then I guess the best thing is to join affiliate platforms such as Clickbank in order to maximise the exposure of the product and to maximise cash sources. Is there any other point?

    Just use both!

    1) Sell your product on your own sites (don't pay middle man - Clickbank).

    2) Sell on Clickbank, so that affiliates can bring in extra money for you.

What about PPC? Would you add Adwords test or extensive campaigns to the process?

PPC can get quite expensive. Why not first check out other methods, or earn from affiliates and your own sales page (through other marketing methods) and re invest in the form of PPC?

Or If you have the money, then why not test it? No harm in it, right?
