    1. Use alexa.com to research your competition. If you have not already done this you are behind the pack. Don't worry because I can help you. PM me if you like.

Create a list using the high traffic keywords your competitors use (From Alexa). Also, use spyfu.com to do this if more market saturation is desired. So far it is still one of the best PPC spy sites available.

    2. From there you have to create a unique perspective of your product. SEPERATE YOURSELF FROM THE COMPETITION.

    3. If you have already done this then your objective is to create a profitable sales page for your product or a product that is growing in demand.

    4. Use the keywords you have collected that you want to rank your website for and feel free to add to them until you have a decent list of about 100 key phrases relevant to your niche.

    5. Post a short article describing your product or service (with a link to your site of course) and publish the same article on a few high PR sites like Goarticles or Ideamaketers.

Tip: Work the keywords from your list into the titles and keep posting articles.

Underground Tip: You only have to change a few words of the same article and Google will see them as different pages.

Warning!: Do not do this unless you are highly targeting a specific niche market!

Good tips, but I wouldn't rely on just one service to get statistics - different sources+analysis= more accurate info.

You can use Alexa to see where websites are getting their backlinks from, how many backlinks they have and of course, the websites alexa rank.

If you type your competions url into the search box in alexa you will get detailed information such as keywords, backlinks, traffic stats etc. You can then use this information to your advantage.

Using Backlinkwatch.com is also a good way to see where competitors are getting backlinks. It gives more information then Yahoo Site Explorer which is good!

Yes, find the smaller /long tail keywords for your niche and write content about them. Then over time you can start going bigger and bigger with the keywords. I use Market Samurai for my keyword research.

Build up a base of "followers" and help them to easily spread your message for you.

Honestly using alexa to dominate or scout a niche is akin to asking your gardener stock advice. Alexa is only a good indicator for LARGE websites. It can only operate functionally with large scales. This is why it is a good indicator for the top 100 websites. But when you have a niche website that is the 57th million least popular in the world, alexa is meaningless. This does not help you dominate the niche nor should deter you from it (could be very small, but very profitable). The best way is use common sense. Start googling different phrases, and perhaps inner page results you would like to rank for. See if any power houses exist and decide if you can take them, or move laterally to capture adjacent markets.

    Dear Gamefriends
While I found your gardener stock advice comment humorous I am afraid I have to strongly disagree. Long before your comment came along I took one of my own websites that was only a few months old and ran it through some keyword spy tools to see what keywords were getting me SEO traffic.
I used spyfu, keywordspy, and alexas tool among several others.

Alexa gave me almost exact information about my best keywords.

Of course I had the ACTUAL traffic logs to compare these tools with.

The alexa tool I am referring to is http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo

If you only consider Alexa useful for the top 100 sites, thats fine. Let other resourceful marketers gain those valuable analytics.

    2. Do better than the competition. Don't try to reinvent the wheel. Use keywords what are already profitable for your competitors.
You can use these competitor research tools to find which keywords are valuable.

Keyword spy, spyfy, semrush, and there are others but less relevant.

Nice tips, even after the Google Panda update, article marketing is still a viable source of long term growth
