Ive seen a few offers to start up a porn site using a turn key option. They supply all the content and you just pay a month fee for upkeep. Porn is a billion dollar business on the net and i was wondering what the downside of such a venture would be. Is anyone on the boards working in this industry?

yes very true, the big guys who get big on this industry are those who also spent that much amount. it's all the same in other niche's if you have the idea, and you have that much to invest, then you can succeed fast
I'm guessing in the long run it would be cheaper to do it yourself. These guys are obviously taking their margin somewhere.
Well the enormous porn archives like Deluxe Pass & Jan's Web Ring are certainly profitable and appeal to porn consumers because it stands out from the other "niche" porn sites. I'm wondering though if the monthly fee is worth it. Why are they doing that if they could be making the money themselves. How hard is it to maintain and run multisites with little niche markets of fetishes? I assume its a franchise type set up. Ill do more research i suppose.
I'd stay away from any monthly fees. There's plenty of other porn networks out there offering better deals then that.
i have a couple of porn sites, i don't have my own content, i just advertise. that is where you can honestly make the most out of nothing. if you set up your own site you have to worry about maintenance and all sorts of things. however the affiliate programs pay $35 for every $5 sign up. With a good site you could offer your customers money back guarantee on trials or you can set up your site to feel like the site you are advertising..example i set up extremeassesblog.com to advertise extremeasses.com, right now it doesn't have anything on it though. i have been in this business for a year this month, and i have made nearly $2,000 for sign ups through my adult sites, and i only have 4.

I think I'd rather build out a TPG and then use affiliate links. A good TPG with traffic trade back end can cost your about $2,500 to set up. Porn pays well, but remember SEO concepts came from the early days of porn, so its a very difficult industry to compete it.

If you use black hat or have a massive advertising budget then they are good but they need to be unique if you want to make money in the long run. If you have time then you'd better build a site yourself.
